Extension website promotes fit, healthy kids

Nebraska Extension's Fit and Healthy Kids website is an invaluable resource for early childhood professionals and child care providers throughout Nebraska.

The website features web-based training and classes for professionals and providers, as well as families, students and teachers. The affordable — sometimes free — research-based educational programs and resources are designed to empower all adults who care for young children by providing high-quality professional development that sets the stage for lifelong learning, discovery and success.

Fit and Healthy Kids is a team of Early Childcare experts from across the United States who offer online training opportunities. The programs feature diverse experts sharing evidence-based practices, resources, ideas and the latest research.

The goal is to foster quality early learning experiences for children birth through 8 years old.

Each training incorporates some aspect of Early Learning guidelines: Birth to five learning and development standards. There are seven domains: social and emotional development, approaches to learning, health and physical development, language and literacy development, mathematics, science and creative arts.

Fit and Healthy Kids training modules incorporate one or more of these domain topics in the session and address how childcare providers can address each topic in their natural environment and daily routine.
