Faculty Updates: Introducing Skylar Scharl!
Skylar has been involved with eXit SPACE for nine years, eight of which were spent as a student in our pre-professional division. She was in the Senior level pre-professional company for a whopping six years as one of our most advanced students in the school, and is currently dancing in professional-level works as she finishes up her associates degree as a running start student. Skylar spent time assisting Artistic Director Marlo Martin at the Elevate Intensive and has also set extremely successful choreographic works on younger companies in seasons past. She has proven time and time again her natural talent and commitment to this art form as well as her capacity to work skillfully and respectfully with intermediate-level students in a technical and artistic capacity. We could not be more excited to watch her take on her own classes with grace this season as she joins the eXit SPACE Faculty!

Classes: Progressions & Jazz Three
Skylar Scharl (she/her), age 17, is thrilled to be joining the faculty at eXit SPACE as the Jazz 3 and Progressions 3/4 instructor. Between private training, conventions, competitions, classes, and rehearsals, she spends 17+ hours a week dancing in the Seattle area. Skylar's dance training began at the age of 3 and she has since trained extensively in jazz, hip hop, ballet, modern, and contemporary, from both local and national artists including Sam Nelson, Mike Esperanza, Arinze Okammor, Marlo Martin, Joseph Dineen, and more. Since the age of 8 years old, Skylar dedicated her time to thePROGRAM at eXit SPACE, training extensively in all styles, and establishing a technical skill set from incredible teachers/mentors including Marlo Martin as well as most of the eXit SPACE core and guest faculty. Skylar’s most memorable experience in dance so far has been traveling to LA and getting recognized in classes at Millenium Dance Complex by some of her biggest inspirations as a dancer, as well as collecting scholarships at conventions and intensives that she attends. Going forward, her goal is to pursue dance at the professional level, and continue working with choreographers and artists that inspire her. Outside of dance, Skylar enjoys hiking, skiing, playing guitar, going to the beach, arts and crafts, reading, and so much more.

Teacher Assistant Program
The Teacher Assistant Program at eXit SPACE is a unique opportunity for dancers enrolled in the pre-professional program (thePROGRAM) ages 14+ to observe our esteemed Faculty in action, build foundational classroom management skills, practice leadership, and give back to the community. Teacher Assistants are an important aspect of our Young Dancer Program in that they support classroom flow and student success, while serving as role models for younger children.
This year, we have eight Teacher Assistants supporting Creative Movement, Combo, and Level 1-3 classes – and they have already been doing a stellar job in the classroom! If you see a TA, give them a thank you for their hard work supporting foundational classes!

Did you know about our Office & Lounge at theNEST? | |
Last spring we added a door to our Office/Lounge area at the top of the stairs at theNEST, making it far more accessible to students, families, and staff. This space offers a sectional couch, large workspace, changing station, bookshelf with dance reference and children's books, borrow bins of used shoes, a sensory self-soothe kit, and our staff desk. Come check it out!
Quiet zone: Downstairs, Alex Goldstein – an eXit SPACE contractor and Soma practitioner – has a bodywork business where she meets with clients daily. Because of this, dancers must enter the lounge quietly and remain quiet if they see her in-session sign posted. Otherwise, dancers are welcome to talk quietly, being respectful of office staff hard at work and the classes in session across the hall.
