If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar
-1 John 1:10-

I parked my car on the street the other day behind a little tan truck. It was an old tan truck, but not a collector. I would consider it a small ‘regular-looking truck.’ Normally, I would not have looked twice, but the bumper sticker caught my attention. The sticker read…

“Skimore College.”

At first glance, one might wonder where this little known college exists, well that is unless you live in Colorado. Try speaking the words slowly out loud. “Ski - More -College.” The bumper sticker is fitting for a driver in the Rocky Mountains, and without ever meeting the owner I am confident he or she is a skier.

Bumper stickers are big business. Over half of the vehicles in the United States wear a bumper sticker of some kind. These stickers offer a glimpse into people’s thoughts and priorities. Rick Hoel, of bankrate.com states, “Bumper stickers can broadcast a person’s life story or a family’s history and tendencies.” Much like social media, the chrome bumpers offer a mobile billboard for people to share their beliefs, hobbies, sports teams, or favored political parties. Some stickers even brag about their child’s GPA. One glance at a bumper sticker, and we get an idea of who is in the vehicle without ever meeting them. But perhaps a different sticker would be more appropriate for all of us. A sticker like, “Sinner Inside” would suffice, but our Lord doesn’t need a bumper sticker on our car to know our heart.

The Apostle John reminds us that we are to live a life of repentance. Don’t think you are a sinner? Then the truth is not in you, you fool yourself and you make God a liar! Yikes! We are to know we are sinners, confess our sins to our Lord and live a life of repentance. God could have headed in the other direction, where no sinners exist. But instead of avoiding us, he invites us to come to him and confess our sins, He forgives us, and even purifies us from all unrighteousness. He makes us righteous!

Sunday we call our next witness, Peter. After the supper in the upper room, Simon Peter would have ordered a bumper sticker made for his boat “I Will Never Deny Jesus.” But before the sticker arrived, the rooster crowd.

But Jesus didn’t give up on Simon Peter, and He didn’t give up on you. Jesus died for Peter, and He died for you. God is always faithful and we are all forgiven. Thanks be to God!

Can I invite you today to confess your sins? I will do the same!

PRAYER: Lord Jesus, I am a sinner. I have sinned against you and others in so many ways. I am sorry, help me to turn from my ways and turn to You. I ask you, Lord, for your forgiveness. AMEN

If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. - John 1:8-9

The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
