Dear Parents,
Thank you to everyone who made the Week of the Arts such a success, especially our event coordinator, Yves Clark. We pushed it back this year to allow a little more freedom to get back to our old routines and we were overwhelmingly effective. Most importantly, the students loved it! There was joyful chaos every afternoon and enthusiastic participation in our morning assemblies. The workshop organizers were organized and flexible, the staff were all willing to do whatever task was assigned, and the backbone of the event, the parent volunteers, were back in full force. Thank you to everyone for providing this opportunity for our children.
The bad news is that we may have a little rain for our Bulldog 5K. The good news is that we run it on the streets so mud will not be an issue AND the rain will keep you cool as you sprint/run/jog/walk through the neighborhood. Look for me around Jim Johnson/Shepherd Park/Cummings Field…I’ll be cheering you on and wishing I could be participating.
Please be sure to get ready for our next big event…the Mission Fair…next Friday, May 13. While we do everything we can to make this a fun day for the students…all of our proceeds go to support the Holy Cross Sisters Moreau School in Uganda. Volunteer sign up sheets and order forms for the day have been sent home. Please remember that the only way to attend the Mission Fair is with a wristband. And, the only way to get a wristband is through the order form. No orders will be processed at school on Friday. We want EVERYONE to attend. If the cost of the wrist band presents a challenge, please email me (Mr. Kelly) directly and we will work something out.
Faithfully,
Chris Kelly

WHAT ARE LABORS OF LOVE?
Labors of Love are chores that Blessed Sacrament students agree to do in order to earn money for the Holy Cross Missions.
This year Labors of Love is, once again, teaming up with the Blessed Sacrament Mission Fair to raise money for the Holy Cross Sisters' Moreau School in Uganda. A focus for fundraising this year is to updates the facilities, replace uniforms, assist with student medical bills, and subsidize faculty salaries at the Moreau School.
How to Donate
Children can do chores at home, and they should earn $2.00 for each chore. (The $2represents the 2 billion people in the world who live on less than $2 a day.)
How to Bring in your Donation
Please be sure to fill out a chore slip for each chore completed. The chore, along with the $2 donation, should be brought back signed to school. Each teacher will have a bag to collect the chore slips and money. Donations and slips can be submitted any morning between May 6th to May 12th.
NOTE: Checks must be made out to Sisters of the Holy Cross.

Blessed Sacrament is offering a free presentation titled
When The World Around Us Is Unsettled, How Do We Help Our Children Find Comfort, Confidence, and Competence?
Tuesday May 31, 7:30-9pm
Presenter: Dr. Lisa Herrick
Parents all over have been wondering how best to help their children move toward a post-pandemic life that remains full of stressors and uncertainty in the larger world around them. How do we recover or create routines, boundaries, and a path forward to foster autonomy, cooperation, and confidence in our children? How can we make our children feel safe while opening the conversations with them about the troubling events in the world? Dr. Lisa Herrick has worked with families and children for over 30 years. She will speak to these, and other questions, to help our parent community begin to sort out the most effective ways to help our children move toward the coming year with emotional health and success.

Is your fifth grade daughter interested in trying her hand at outdoor adventures like camping - and even tomahawk throwing - and building leadership and entrepreneurial skills next year? If so, Girl Scouts is your answer! Fifth-grade mom Betsy McIntyre has agreed to serve as the primary troop leader for a BSS 6th grade Girl Scout Cadette troop next year (the 2022-23 school year). To make the troop a go, she will need at least two other parent volunteers to help lead the troop - as per Girl Scout policy - to serve as a Troop Money Manager and a Co-Leader (to serve as a second chaperone and assist Betsy).
If you are interested in either position, please reach out to Betsy McIntyre at edk2006@tc.columbia.edu by May 15.
