SURPRISE!
A rabbi and a priest both ran through a stop sign and crashed into each other. They got out of their cars to examine the damage. The rabbi spoke first, “The cars are totaled, but we’re fine, no injuries.
“It’s the grace of God that spared us both!” replied the priest.
“Look!” said the rabbi. “My bottle of Manischewitz isn’t even scratched. Let’s toast our good fortune.”
Still shaking, the priest downed half the bottle before handing it back to the rabbi who twisted the cap back on. “Aren’t you going to join me in the toast?” asked the priest. “Sure,” said the rabbi. “Right after we talk to the policeman.”

Life is full of surprising twists and changes!

This weekend we celebrate the feast of the Body and Blood of Christ: the Eucharist. Are you aware that the early Christians called the Eucharist, “food for pilgrims” and “medicine for sick people”? What a wonderful way to describe God’s food for us.

The Eucharist we share is Jesus’ promise that he will stand by us through our journey of life. Christ, the Eucharist, will be there through the confusing and messy process of growing up. Christ, the Eucharist, will walk with us in our difficult times and pick us up when we fall. Christ, the Eucharist, will never abandon us, day after day, until we depart this life. Eucharist is food for our journey and medicine for whatever ails us.

Are you celebrating so great a gift in receiving communion or are you still hungering for such wonderous food? Don’t grow hungry any longer. Christ, the Eucharist, has set the table for you again and waits to feed you. Let Christ, the Eucharist, surprise and delight you at the banquet awaiting you this weekend!
