Dear Residents –

This Memorial Day weekend was one for the books. The weather was absolutely beautiful and the ceremonies and parades commemorating it around town were all jam-packed. Many thanks to all who showed up, especially my staff members, to pay tribute to the heroes who courageously fought and gave their lives for our freedom.

As promised, here is a quick update on the Town’s request for a preliminary injunction against the Armoni Inn and Suites to stop it from sheltering homeless individuals from NYC in the hotel. This past Wednesday, after hearing from the attorneys for both parties, the judge extended the Temporary Restraining Order until such time as she renders a decision on the preliminary injunction, which will likely be in a few weeks. However, it is important to know that the hotel is permitted to be open and operate as a hotel during this period.

And just like that, it is June of 2023, and I am so ready for the opening of the new splash pad at Veterans Memorial Park. I am really not sure who is more excited, the children, their parents, my staff or me! We are currently putting some final touches on it, so stay tuned for more information about the official grand opening.

This weekend there will be two local 5k walks/runs going on in Orangetown. The first is Saturday morning, the Rockland Solace Sunrise Walk will be starting at the Rockland GAA, where they will be walking in solidarity, fighting the fight against suicide. Then on Sunday morning, the Blauvelt Lions & TZHS Leo Club will be hosting the “Journey for Sight.” It starts at the beginning of the rail trail in Blauvelt and all proceeds will support visually impaired charities.

Both days look promising at the moment, so plan on getting outside and enjoying some sunshine before, dare I say it, it gets too hot!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Regards,

Teresa M. Kenny
