Chris Wilkens, "Mother's Prayer of Hope" Food Drive
Once again, New Life Church takes my breath away! We support so many missions, yet you reached into your pantries and found food to donate to "A Mother's Prayer of Hope" for the Salvation Army! Their building had just completed final repairs from Ian, and they were ready to accept food donations again. How many mothers had been praying for help? You gave; you delivered. We filled two SUVs to the roof with your donations. As we pulled into their parking lot, two workers from another part of their campus just walked up- and they were a blessing as they carried box after box, cart after cart, of food to their pantry! Their shelves are now overflowing with food that is quality, in-date food to feed their families! I thank you for your generosity! I thank you for the love and prayers that you wrapped around each container of food! The receiving families will feel your love and prayers as they enjoy these blessings! Thank you! We have breathed new life into many families!
Bargain Boutique - Closing for the Summer
The Bargain Boutique is closing for the summer. We close June 1 and will re-open September 6.

We appreciate and are thankful for all you do for us and in turn our local community benefits in many ways.

So yes we are packing our bags, a few have left. California, Iowa and cruises! See you in September.

Head or Heart?
Myrt Creigh, Disciple of Christ
Years ago, I was getting in my car after work, when a lady came running up to my car window repeatedly yelling, “Do you know Jesus?”. Her heart was bursting and I couldn’t help roll down the window and reply, “Yes, I do”…her reply was “Isn’t He wonderful? Tell everybody!” What joy! I’ll never forget that day…her enthusiasm was contagious!

What if all of us had that enthusiasm and commitment to Jesus? This past year, I’ve been rereading the scriptures with what you might call “my eyes wide open”. There are passages that I have read hundreds of times but not like this…as I have shared with friends…this time it was with my heart and not my head.

I began teaching the Bible when I was 14 with the encouragement of my mother to preschoolers. Now after 8 decades I’ve taught every age and demographic…I had the head knowledge but now with the heart finally opened up to what He’s telling us.

I encourage you to go into your devotional time with your heart open...ask God to help you to see and hear what He wants you to see and hear. Believe me you’ll find it so rewarding, I know I have...old dogs can learn new things.
Pray’n, Stretch’n & Tone’n
Mondays, Wednesday & Fridays - 9am in the Life Center
This exercise class is designed to help seniors exercise their bodies and minds through stretching, flexing, thinking, breathing and praying. Each class begins with prayer, stretching and breathing exercises followed by strengthening all major muscles groups. The book "Truth Matters: Confident Faith in a Confusing World has been recently donated to our Teen collection.
Will you pray for one of our youth as they serve as missionaries this summer?
Since you said “Yes!” you can select the name of a teen missionary to pray for specifically. Students have printed their names on key chain tags which are available for you to take home this beginning Sunday. These colorful tags have the name of one student or adult volunteer who is part of our youth summer missions team. So, the next time you are at church, you can grab a key tag and add it to your set of keys. Then each time you see the key tag remember to say a prayer for the individual who will be serving in Austin Texas this June 15th to 23rd.

Key Tags are available in the Life Center Foyer, the Historic Sanctuary, and the mission table in Lenox Hall.

"The earnest prayer of a righteous person has power and produces wonderful results." James 5:16 NLT

Youth Mission Trip June 15-23 - Austin, Texas
Have you heard? Our Teens are planning a mission trip to Texas this June! Preparations are almost complete for this 9-day trip. Students and their adult chaperones have been meeting together as a group for training sessions and doing "homework" to prepare for the trip.

If you want to help our mission team in a specific and meaningful way, we have a unique opportunity you may want to invest in. While on our mission trip, we will be sleeping on air mattresses in a church about 10 miles north of the Texas Capital City of Austin where they will be working. While there, the team will purchase mattresses, pillows, and some blankets to use during their stay at the church. Then at the end of the mission trip, the teens plan to continue their long-standing tradition of donating these air mattresses, pillows, and blankets to a local shelter. If you would like to help pay for a pillow, a blanket, or a mattress that will be donated to a shelter in the Austin area, then check out the following list.

We suggest the following donation amounts:
  • $10 for a pillow or blanket.
  • $25 donation will buy a basic 6-inch twin-sized mattress.
  • $65 donation will purchase a raised twin mattress that comes with its own internal electric plug making it so much easier for the homeless shelter to keep them inflated.

Please prayerfully consider helping in this tangible way by making a donation towards the purchase of one or more of these items for our Teen Summer Missions Team. Donations can be made by writing “Youth Mission Trip” in the memo of your check and placing in the offering plate or dropping it at the church office by June 4th.

Thanks again for investing in our teens and helping them fulfill the great commission. Matthew 28:19 & 20

A Word from Worship
Greetings New Life Church family --

It's hard to believe that the "summer season" beginning with Memorial Day weekend is here. I'm pretty sure it's because I move ever slower that the passing of time feels in "fast forward" mode. I'm not sure about you but I have many lists on my heart and in my journal of things I'd like to do and then when I gear up to do it, some new or continuing adversity flares up to challenge me. I know now that adversity is used by God to draw us closer to Him. When I try to resolve problems on my own, I feel defeated and weak but when I turn to prayer, I am always amazed at the insights He shows me through His word. He promises in Jeremiah 33:3 "Call to Me and I will answer you, and I will tell you great and mighty things, which you do not know."
As Charles Stanley tells us, God is our constant Helper, a faithful Friend, a wise Leader, and our great Redeemer. Can you imagine? Our Heavenly Father, who not only holds the whole universe in His hand, wants to have intimate conversation with each of us!  And prayer is the pathway to a relationship with our Creator on a much deeper level and helps you see yourself through His eyes. We learn in scripture that God created us because it gave Him joy to do so. I believe He gave us the gift of prayer so we can receive His love and respond to Him. I realize the 24/10 prayer vigil officially ends on Sunday May 28th, but I encourage you to continue to experience the power of prayer and share your experiences with others.  You will be blessed again and again.

Please continue to pray for Pastor Mike as he recovers from hip surgery. Prayers also for Pastor Bob as he continues his recovery from recent illness and Pastor Angela as she holds down the fort.

Have a safe and fun Memorial Day weekend! I'm praying for you!
