GoGuardian App

GoGuardian Parent App was created to help provide additional support to parents. It allows parents to see what sites and documents their children are browsing and provides parents with additional internet controls at home. The app gives parents a bird's eye

view of the apps and websites that their kids are on most often, and control

over school-issued Google accounts during out-of-school hours. During school

hours SJS admin have an in school policy and a Default Policy. The SJS Default

policy block major elicit websites during school and non-school hours.

So parents are aware the SJS Default Policy does not stop kids from browsing website like, Facebook, YouTube or Tic Tok. During non-school hours SJS does not have control over content parents allow their children to view.

The GoGuardian Parent App will allow parents block site they do not approve of in their own filter on the GoGuardian Parent App. Parents Policies will take control during non-school hours. With this perspective, parents can be made aware of what types of

browsing behavior schools are seeing from students so we can all work together

to encourage more effective internet browsing habits at home and school.

Nurse's Corner

Get at least 9 hours of sleep per night

Sleep is the single most effective thing you can do to reset the health of your brain and body”

According to the National Sleep Foundation, adolescents should get 9 to 11 hours of sleep and teens should get at least 8 to 10 hours of sleep per day, and younger children should get even more

  • Preschoolers (3-5): Sleep range widened by one hour to 10-13 hours
  • School age children (6-13): Sleep range widened by one hour to 9-11 hours
  • Teenagers (14-17): Sleep range widened by one hour to 8-10 hours
  • Younger adults (18-25): Sleep range is 7-9 hours (new age category)
  • Adults (26-64): Sleep range did not change and remains 7-9 hours
  • Older adults (65+): Sleep range is 7-8 hours (new age category)

Click on this link to read a good short article with short videos on sleep benefits for children.

Why is adequate sleep important to children’s health?

  • Promotes enhanced memory and neuropsychological functioning in children
  • Improves behavior and school performance
  • Helps create and maintain good relations with others
  • Research has linked inadequate sleep with a higher risk for childhood obesity: A recent study found that with each extra hour of sleep, the risk of a child being overweight or obese dropped by 9%

Top tips for children and adolescents to get more sleep:

  • Teach school age children about lifelong healthy sleep habits
  • Continuously emphasize the need for a regular sleep schedule and bedtime routine. Don’t use sleep as a punishment
  • Make sure your child’s bedroom is conducive towards sleep- dark shades, cool, quiet and without a TV, computer, iPad
  • Avoid giving children caffeine: Chocolate or caffeine containing snacks close to bedtime
  • Know the signs of sleep-deprivation in your child: Adults get sleepy, but kids “tend to be more hyper, inattentive, irritated and annoyed.”
  • Monitor your child for difficulty breathing, unusual nighttime awakenings, chronic sleep problems, behavioral problems during the day and frequent daytime sleepiness.
