SHARP GRANTS ARE NOW CLOSED!
We are sad to report that we have closed SHARP Grants for the season. If you've already received an application, please try to return the application and any bids you have received for work back to HHQ as soon as you can. You can find other home improvement programs on our website.
HHQ Welcomes New Staff
Three new staff members joined Home HeadQuarters recently--all with glowing recommendations by existing HHQ employees. Madeline Vinales (pictured left) is HHQ's busy office receptionist and administrative assistant. Maddy joins us from JGB Enterprises where she handled packaging and shipping. She says she loves answering all the different calls and helping to triage customer inquiries and doesn't hold it against the gentleman on the phone who called her a bad name on her first week on the job. Maddy is originally from the Bronx and moved to Syracuse to raise her three children. She likes long walks, country drives and spending time with her grandchildren.

Chelsea Haynes (pictured middle) joins HHQ as a case manager in our busy lending department. She joins the organization from SEFCU where she was a members specialist. Right now, she is handling our closing cost assistance program and helping to provide intake for our homebuyer pre-qualifications. Chelsea loves the idea of giving back to the community where she grew up and also likes being responsible for her own work. She's mom to an eight year old and when not working, likes anime and video games.

Rosa Feliz also comes to the organization from a local credit union and joins our lending department as a case manager for various HHQ programs. Originally from New Jersey, Rosa came to Syracuse to visit family and fell in love with the open and green outdoors (not just buildings and traffic!) and decided to stay. While she says that she still needs to use a GPS to get around Syracuse, she loves hiking and discovering new trails.
NYS Homeowners Assistance Program
The New York State Homeowner Assistance Fund was launched earlier this year in January to prevent homeowners from losing their homes. Demand far outstripped available program funding and the program quickly closed after 15,000 applications state-wide were submitted. Home HeadQuarters helped more than 100 clients apply for HAF funding to address both mortgage and tax arrears. Applications continue to be reviewed and approved, and to date, more than $100,000 has been awarded to local homeowners seeking property tax assistance. This funding will be paid directly to the city of Syracuse for delinquent property taxes. For those homeowners seeking mortgage default assistance, Home HeadQuarters has been working with New York State to determine appropriate loan modifications and reinstatements. Approvals for assistance through the program continue to come and so far, no one locally has been denied help. Stay tuned for any information on a possible second round of funding or if you need foreclosure prevention assistance immediately, visit HHQ's foreclosure information on our website.
Syracuse Model Neighborhood Corp.
Home HeadQuarters' staff is continuing the hard press in addressing existing rehab and repair issues in Syracuse Model Neighborhood Corp. (SMNC) rental properties. Last month, HHQ's maintenance crew put in more than 960 hours towards rehabbing, repairing and cleaning rental units. Seven SMNC properties were cleared from long-standing code violations and staff continues to work with the city of Syracuse on code issues, smoke detector certifications, rental registry and certificate of compliances for its buildings. Staff is also working with tenants and Onondaga County to secure rental relief for those impacted by COVID.
Thank You for Voting!
Thank you to everyone who voted for Home HeadQuarters as part of Target's Circle app supporting local non-profits. HHQ received more than 26,000 votes, and while that did not help us beat out those %$#* dogs (dogs live in houses, too!), we did receive a generous donation for which we are incredibly grateful.

Victoria Has a Vision
Victoria Session had a dream about becoming a homeowner a few years ago and she takes her dreams very seriously. She made owning her own home a goal and made her goal, a priority. She and her husband, and her occasionally spoiled dog, Aries, are moving into their first home just as soon as the closing takes place. Now, Victoria has a vision: she sees a Zen garden, maybe a vegetable garden and all kinds of other things that she says are all about one's well-being and sense of self.

"I see myself growing my own vegetables and doing things in and around my house that represent self-care. My house will be a home filled with peace, happiness and joy."
A very happy new homeowner with a very cute dog on her purse.
Get started on your vision today by signing up to meet with a financial counselor through the Syracuse FEC or if you're ready to go, sign up for our 8-hour Homebuyer Education Course.
