Three Industry Opposed Bills Yet To Be Signed or Vetoed

Your advocates in Sacramento continue to lead the effort to stop three detrimental bills—AB 98, SB 1103, and AB 2364—from becoming law. All three passed the legislature and now have until September 30th to be signed or vetoed by Governor Newsom.

AB 98 (Carrillo; D-Palmdale and Reyes; D-San Bernardino) would introduce restrictive mandates on warehouses. SB 1103 (Menjivar; D-Van Nuys) proposes burdensome commercial lease contract mandates. AB 2364 (Rivas; D-Los Angeles) is a flawed janitorial study bill.

If your organization has not yet done so, we encourage you to submit a veto letter. For more information contact Skyler Wonnacott at swonnacott@cbpa.com.

Overwhelming Majority Support Proposition 36

With the November election approaching, polls show 70% of likely voters indicate they would support Proposition 36, a measure aimed at increasing penalties for certain theft and drug offenses. Retail theft is a key issue for CBPA given its damaging impact on the commercial real estate industry. CBPA has endorsed Prop 36 and has actively worked to support its passage since October.

Assembly Bill 98 Opponents Rally For A Veto

The League of California Cities hosted a press conference advocating for a veto on AB 98, the restrictive warehouse mandate bill. CBPA participated in the event which featured a handful of mayors and partner organizations, including BizFed and Inland Empire Economic Partnership.

AB 98 was introduced as a last-minute gut and amend just days prior to the end of the legislative session without input from key stakeholders leading to wide spread opposition. Governor Newsom now has until September 30th to sign or veto the bill.
