Students Encouraged to Discover District 26

Recently the Gardiner-Shenker Fellows distributed 100 copies of “Discover Your District” to students in the E-Atrium. “Discover Your District” was created by the student-fellows, and features their writing, research and photography. The booklet highlights some of the offerings in District 26, which includes LaGuardia and the neighborhoods of Long Island City, Sunnyside, Woodside and Astoria. Their work examined cultural, educational, and health-related resources available near the College in an effort to encourage students to explore this part of the city. It also includes some fun facts about the district and our current City Council Member Julie Won – the first woman to represent District 26. View and download the Discover Your District Booklet at the LaGuardia and Wagner Archives' website. The students will present more of their work at a showcase on May 30 in the Poolside Cafe, stay tuned for more information!

ServiceNow Launching Early May

We’re in the final phases of completing and testing our transition to ServiceNow, our new cloud-based ticketing system that will be replacing SysAid, the current College-wide ticketing system. We have targeted going live on Monday, May 8.

ServiceNow will improve our efficiency, security and ability to connect, manage, integrate and respond to help desk ticket requests. This is a CUNY university-wide mandatory change so all campuses are transitioning to ServiceNow. For more information and updates visit ServiceNow SharePoint. In the meantime, please check your emails and Campus Update regularly for more information about ServiceNow and the transition including what will change, available user training and instructional materials and updates on our progress.

LIBRARY NEWS

Latest Updates from LaGuardia's Library

  • Our Library is recognized as a participating library in The Smart investing@your library®! This is a national network that “can help anyone learn about money, develop a budget, save for college, plan for retirement and much more.” The site is sponsored by the American Library Association and the FINRA Investor Education Foundation. We are one of two academic libraries in the state to win this award in the last 10 years. The Library was awarded a $49,637 two-year FINRA grant in Fall 2022 to create open educational resources (OER) on financial literacy. We plan to launch these materials in Fall 2023.
  • Even though construction in the Library continues, we have plenty of seating available. Other than the first floor, the Mezzanine is still accessible to students by the side staircases and the elevator. The Thomson Reading Room on the second floor is open and accessible by elevator.
  • The IT lab on the first floor behind the Media Help Desk is available for online classes. Most computers have cameras and headphones are available (and they’re free!)
