Glenna Phelps-Aurich, Executive Director of Logan County Chamber recently presented the Business of the Week presenting Business of the Week to A Caring Pregnancy Resource Center and Jill Steimer -Site Director, Taffy Vaughn -Volunteer, Linda Littlefield -Advocate and (not pictured) Faye Barnhart - Executive Director, and other Sterling Site Volunteers: Shelly Stumpf, Annie Lambertson, Rochelle Lenox, Robin Stahley, Carol Drury and Emily Singer.
…A Caring Pregnancy Resource Center of Northeast Colorado began in April 1999 and was federally approved as a 501(c)3 in 2001. The Pregnancy Center began with a small group of people praying in Sterling about the lives of children being lost prior to birth. A Caring Pregnancy Resource Center of Northeast Colorado provides viable options and practical solutions for women experiencing overwhelming challenges while pregnant so that every pregnant woman in Northeast Colorado can feel successful as a mom.
…The Pregnancy Center first opened in Brush in 1999, adding Holyoke in 2008, and Yuma in 2016. The current Sterling location next door to the Family Center at 118 Main St. opened in 2016. Renovations of the original office took place upon moving in, and then again in a larger office down the hall two years later. Each location is operated by a Site Director, Assistant Site Director, and a team of volunteers. Additional parttime staff were added to help with the increase in services in 2016, 2018, 2020, and 2022. …The Pregnancy Center currently has one fulltime and five parttime staff members, plus contracted and volunteer nurses, doctors, and sonographers. In 2017, the pregnancy center added Sterling to its existing annual banquets and invited national celebrities and speakers into the community.
…In 2018, funds were raised to purchase and design a mobile medical vehicle to provide limited ultrasounds to confirm pregnancy under the direction of Dr. Julia Trevino-Emerson. A parttime Nurse Manager and certified sonographers were added. In 2019, local Sterling doctors began referring their patients to the pregnancy center for the one-on-one emotional support and practical helps the pregnancy center offers. By 2019, the pregnancy center was providing classroom presentations in 21 school districts.
…In 2020, A Caring Pregnancy Resource Center of Northeast Colorado celebrated 20 years at its four banquet venues the last weekend in January. In 2021, almost 200 women were helped through A Caring Pregnancy Resource Center of Northeast Colorado, with more than sixty (60) women and their families receiving practical helps and one-on-one emotional support in Sterling.

…The Sterling location is in the process of expanding to a third room next door to current office spaces to house their expanding “Lending Closet” where women can access baby clothing and items to help bring baby home (and up to two years). They have also recently added, this year, a fifth location in Wray, Colorado. They cover six counties in Northeast Colorado with locations in Sterling, Brush, Holyoke, Yuma, Wray, and the mobile medical unit serving all six (plus) counties.
…A Caring Pregnancy Resource Center of Northeast Colorado offers no-cost, confidential, and individualized services for women including a free and confidential pregnancy test, confirmation of pregnancy through ultrasound, one-on-one emotional support throughout pregnancy and as long as needed, accurate pregnancy information, parenting education/coaching, modern adoption options and options counseling, mentorship for dad, budgeting, after-pregnancy care, infant clothing and items up to everything mom needs to bring baby home and up to two years.
…The Pregnancy Center specializes in helping women facing overwhelming challenges while pregnant out of crisis and into a place of hope where they can reach for their dreams and thrive as mothers.
…A Caring Pregnancy Resource Center of Northeast Colorado also offers interactive presentations in public classrooms engaging students in learning life-impacting skills to discover personal goals and make positive choices that will help them build healthy relationships into the future.
…The presentations address the influences of media, peers, and personal decision-making in the prevention of suicide, sexual victimization, partner violence, alcoholism, and other addictive behaviors. Optional presentations link sexuality with pregnancy and childbirth from the expertise of the pregnancy center.
