Summer CSA starts next week

The first week of CSA pick-up is the week of June 21 - next week. All members received their confirmation email last week which included your selected pick up day and location. If you didn't receive this email, check your junk folder.

Not sure what Share segments you purchased? Your share(s) will be indicated beside your name on the sign in sheet.

Do you pick up on Friday's? There's a pick up on Friday July 1 - Canada Day.

Let your friends and neighbours know about CSA. We are cropping for extra CSA members this year and there's still space!
Community Gardens update

May 21 marked the opening of over 250 community garden plots. It's wonderful to see the plots coming to life. Garden featured here is one of our long time gardeners!

A few reminders:
  • Weed your plot perimeter and pathways.
  • Most roads to garden plots are closed to vehicle traffic. Protect tree roots and soil from erosion. Load up your items into the wagon or wheelbarrow located by the Community Garden bulletin board before heading to your plot.

Are you looking for additional gardening space? Reach out to Pam.

All the answers to your questions can be found in the Community Gardens Guidelines found here or on the Community Garden bulletin board in the farm parking lot.

Donating extra produce
Did you have extra produce in your garden last summer? Not sure what to do with all your extra greens or tomatoes?

Tuesday's at Two is back for a second year. Beginning July 5th, drop off your extra produce under the tree by Loyola field hand wash station. One of our dedicated community gardeners will take the produce to North End Harvest Market for distribution in Guelph. Last year 23 bushels of produce were dropped off by community gardeners!

Early Summer in the Orchard

This spring has been a busy time in the Ignatius orchard. It was absolutely beautiful at flowering time, and now many trees have small fruits sizing up. Thanks to several volunteer work parties the orchard has many new plantings – pawpaws, Asian pear, peach, plum, quince, buartnut (butternut x heartnut cross), haskaps, and more. It’s well on its way to becoming a diverse orchard.

In early spring an amazing volunteer crew pruned the orchard, and have since been spreading compost and mulch. Most recently we have begun spraying a product called kaolin clay for pest management. Some of the orchard trees will look different this year, because once this product is sprayed on the trees, it leaves a white clay film that acts as a barrier to certain insect pests that otherwise blemish a lot of the fruit.

We hope to continue transitioning the Ignatius orchard into a place of communal learning and collective care. If you’re interested in being involved, please email Pam
