Family doctors,

We know that you are struggling with burnout, backlogs and frustration. There is a lack of support and respect for the vital work you are doing.

Family doctors are drowning in unnecessary administrative work. You don’t want to let your patients down, but you’re stuck behind your computer and constantly chasing down referrals. Expectations are high and patients are coming to you with more complex cases than ever before.

We know that you love your clinical practice, care deeply for your patients and want to make a difference in your community. But the current challenges are taking the joy out of your work. It’s hurting you and it’s hurting the profession.

It’s not ok.

We need our government and partners in health care to know this too.

The OCFP is calling for meaningful and tangible changes to help family doctors today. Read on for updates on the action we are taking.

Urgent Action Needed

Through forums, polls and Communities of Practice, the OCFP has heard from family doctors.

It’s not ok that family doctors are:

X Spending up to 19 hours a week on administrative tasks, most of which is unnecessary.

X Not benefitting from equitable access to team-based primary care

X Often on the receiving end of admin tasks/work downloaded by other health professionals.

Political Action

The OCFP is advocating for urgent action to help family doctors today.

We must act now to cut down the unnecessary administrative burden that family doctors are experiencing.

Every family doctor, regardless of the payment model you work in, needs access to team supports.

  • The OCFP has been leading calls for all family doctors, regardless of payment model, to have access to team support. The Ontario government is investing $30 million to support 18 new or existing teams. It's a start, but it's not enough. Much more is needed. An Expression of Interest will be shared later this month.
