Marketing and Business Development Support for 2023-24
Rumin Mann | rmann@bcwood.com

BC Wood is excited to announce the approval of the 2023-24 Wood First program! Beginning April 1st, 2023, we will be coordinating and delivering an exciting line up of activities to assist you in your marketing and business development! Please note, you do not need to be a BC Wood member to participate in these activities.

Workshops:
We will be delivering a number of virtual and hybrid workshops throughout the year on business development and marketing topics. Please contact Rumin at rmann@bcwood.com if you have a request for a particular topic.

Business and Marketing Assessments:
An expert will review and evaluate your company's activities and strategy. Business assessments review your business plan as well as identify gaps that prevent a company from growing due to a lack of knowledge regarding proper accounting practices, human resource/employee issues, strategic planning, succession planning, cost-analysis, overhead and capital investments. Marketing Assessments identify marketing activity/strategy improvements, how to accelerate your marketing strategy, as well as how to strengthen and improve your overall brand and messaging to further set you apart from competitors and achieve your desired business goals. Funding covers 75% of cost. You can go with any third party consultant of your choice and do not need to be a BC Wood member to access this program.

Marketing and Business Development Company Projects:
Wood First Wednesday
Twig BC | info@twicbc.ca

On the first Wednesday of each month we meet at a venue from 6:00PM-8:30PM, sit down at a table and share stories from our journeys and careers and experience in wood. It’s a place to meet others from different parts of the industry and reconnect with familiar faces. For those new to BC and who work in companies, it's a place to connect outside your workplace to learn things, be inspired and make new connections. The stories you hear, and thoughts that are exchanged at WFW are invaluable, which has many from our community returning monthly.

This month, our 2nd event in Victoria was a huge success with an attendance of 25 people at Toolpath Design, and the Vancouver group met at Faculty Brewing with its regular crowd of 10-15. We’d love to see some new faces at our next event so please join us with a friend, or a colleague or come solo and look for us at one of the large tables.

This month our Vancouver event will take place at Luppolo Brewing Co. and the Victoria event will be posted soon on our website.
TWIG SHAPE Program
Twig BC | info@twicbc.ca

The TWIG SHAPE program is underway and for our pilot year, we have ten participants who will be turning a concept into a product over the course of seven months. This cohort-based program includes guidance and mentorship from wood professionals and access to technical expertise.

As part of SHAPE, we’ve developed some specialized workshops in partnership with CAWP and BC Wood, open for anyone to attend. These workshops have been created to tackle areas of learning that are fundamental to the development and marketing of wood products. They are based on common questions, and gaps in knowledge that we consistently see when working with individuals and companies in prototype development and consulting. They are also very applicable for those working in companies who want to up their knowledge about wood manufacturing and processes to help them with current projects.

  1. April 27, 10:30 - 11:15 - BC Wood workshop with Neil Godin: Fail Safe: 3 powerful keys to success in marketing your wood product innovation
  2. May 12, 4:00 - 5:30 - CAWP workshop #1: Wood processing - From raw material to part production. Understanding production workflows to optimize your designs, and use of wood.
  3. June 9, 4:00 - 5:30 - CAWP workshop #2: CNC Machining - Utilizing CNC cutting technology to your advantage as a tool in design, production, jig making and prototyping.

Housing Brand Fair 2023
JC Lee | JClee@bcwood.com

On behalf of members, BC Wood organizes one major construction show each year in the Korean market. For this fiscal year we once again chose the Housing Brand Fair at Seoul’s centrally located COEX Trade and Convention Centre from March 2nd to 5th. This show is always well publicized by the organizer and as a result 44,436 people came to see the Housing Brand Fair during over the four days.

A total of 152 companies exhibited with 470 booths this year. While the overall attendance was lower than pre-COVID levels, we could meet with many of the potential buyers for value added wood products. This year there was particular interest in our engineered wooden products sector. Overall, our Housing Brand Fair program this year was a very good event for our participating members and our Korean office will be busy following up with all of the leads that were generated.
