Dr. Shawn Smith was notified that Simba Center received the Gold Quality Standard Rating achievement from the National Association of Free and Charitable Clinics. This quality standard award reflects their commitment to providing high quality health care among the uninsured, homeless, and low-income in the High Desert community.
Last year, they received a Bronze Rating as a first-year clinic, and have now been recognized with a Gold Rating. We are proud of his accomplishment and his work to meet the health care needs of low income, homeless, and uninsured.
Congratulations to recent COP graduate ShanChao (Howard) Yang, PharmD '22, (pictured, left), who was selected as a 2022 ACCP Student Abstract Award Winner at the 2022 Annual Meeting of the American College of Clinical Pharmacology® (#2022ACCP). The award will include a trophy and $1,000 honorarium, plus $500 in travel expenses and free registration for the meeting. ACCP awards 16 Student Abstract Awards each year and Dr. Yang’s abstract was one of the top eight student abstracts. His research was supervised by Dr. Moses Chow.
His abstract, “Chemosensitizing Effect of Herbal Compound Wilforlide A in Combination with Taxanes on Drug-Resistant Prostate Cancer Cells,” is an example of translational research based on his work in Dr. Chow’s laboratory before and during his advanced elective rotation. Dr. Yang’s and Dr. Chow’s work provides an excellent example of translational research.
