News from the ICS Library

Happy Spring from the ICS Library! Read below for some library news!

We received a $250 Kirkland Youth Council Mini-Grant for books in our “Be You” section. Responding to student requests, we will be adding books about managing stress and anxiety, driver’s education, disaster preparedness, cooking and more.

Did you know we have a small maker space in the library! This spring students have been using our typewriter to create some fun haikus! Past activities have included building a marble maze, creating weight-bearing bridges and coloring artwork created by ICS staff member Zac Aquino. We are also almost finished with our 16th puzzle for the school year.

LWSD Middle School Librarians just released the list of books for the 2022-23 Battle of the Books challenge. I am SO excited about this year’s list. We will have multiple copies of the books available in the fall. The list of 12 BOB books is posted on the ICS library website (link below) if you want a preview.

Last thing: if your high school student is looking for volunteer hours, there is an opportunity to read books AND get community service hours as a student book reviewer from KCLS! The link to apply goes live May 16 and slots will fill up fast. Here's the link to the volunteer page but note that the student reviewer application link won't be on the page until the 16th.

VOLUNTEERING

Interior Cleaning Event - May 18th

Let’s make ICS clean, shine and healthy before the school year end. 

ICS Interior Cleaning Event on Wednesday May 18th 2022

5.30 - 8pm 

Cleaning supplies provided 

Food and Drinks provided

We will do wipes desk and chairs, vacuum and sweep class room and hallway, wipes windows and doors. 

Earn you last volunteer hours this year with immediate family and kids. Please no kids under grade 6. 

Please bring vacuum cleaner, if you can.

Special Commute Research Committee

Are you passionate to reduce daily kid dropping/pickup time and make it faster and safer process? then here is the job for you. We want to reduce the current 10 ~ 15 minutes queue waiting time, and make the drop/pickup a much faster and safer practice for all the ICS families.

We are looking for 3 parents, from both middle school and high school, to assemble a special committee that study the current status quo, research options, and propose solutions.

Volunteers Needed for Tutoring/Homework Help

As the enlightened say, knowledge is a treasure, perhaps the only one, that spreads and grows bigger with sharing. Here is a unique opportunity for parents to share and spread their knowledge/skill/expertise with ICS students. We are seeking parent volunteers to help our students with core ICS curriculum (e.g. Math, Science, Humanities, etc.) as well as other subject areas (e.g. music, art, etc.).

If you are interested, please fill out this form with

• SUBJECT AREA you are interested in teaching with preferred grade levels, if any,
• DAYS of the WEEK and TIMES you are available,
• YOUR NAME, and
• YOUR EMAIL to use to set up a Teams meeting for the class.

If you would like to teach multiple subjects, please submit a different form for each subject area.

Parent Meetings Second Tuesday of the Month

All PTSA parent meetings are held on the second Tuesday of the month. This link will take you to the recurring meeting on Teams; you can use it for all parent meetings this school year.
