It seems like we're always working on deadlines. It's no different at the SBE. There are several deadlines you should be aware of, the most pressing is the deadline for entries in the SBE Awards Program. Nominations are due today. Get the details below.
There are other SBE programs with looking deadlines, too. You can find information on those in this issue of SBE-news.
The annual SBE Compensation Survey is closed and the data is being compiled. If you participated in the survey, thank you. If you did not, please do in the future. More responses mean more accurate and useful information. The full report will be available to SBE members at no charge as a member benefit later this month.

SBE22 Broadcast & Technology Expo Registration Opens
SBE Chapter 22 Central New York is planning the 2022 SBE22 Broadcast & Technology Expo, to be held Sept. 29 in Liverpool, NY. The SBE National Meeting will be held in conjunction with the Expo. The SBE National Meeting includes the SBE National Awards Reception and Dinner, recognizing outstanding achievement by SBE members and chapters. The SBE will also conduct the SBE Annual Membership Meeting on the 29th.
The Expo takes place on Sept. 29 and includes broadcast technology sessions and broadcast/media equipment and services tradeshow. The Expo was held for 45 consecutive years before taking a four-year break beginning in 2015. Chapter 22 brought it back in 2019, only to have it delayed because of COVID. The event draws broadcast engineers from all over New York State, surrounding states and Canada.
Registration for the Expo is now open. Register as an attendee for the full day of technical sessions and the exhibit hall. Manufacturers, dealers and distributors can also register to exhibit. Paper submissions are also being accepted.
Expo hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Anyone working in the broadcast/media field, including those who work in non-technical positions in broadcast and media are invited to attend. You do not need to be an SBE member to attend. Admission to the Expo and sessions is free. Register at sbe22.org. Lunch will be available for a nominal charge.
The SBE National Meeting and Chapter 22 Broadcast and Technology Expo will be held at the Ramada by Wyndham, Liverpool.

It's a Good Time To Be Certified
Just more than one year ago, the Society of Broadcast Engineers, in its continuing effort to advance its Program of Certification, added a new Specialist Certification to its offerings: The ATSC3 Specialist. The latest level of SBE certification was developed by the Society of Broadcast Engineers Certification Committee with direct assistance from the Advanced Television Systems Committee.
The SBE Certification Committee constantly updates the exam subject material to stay current with changes in technology. While there are a span of certification levels that require a certain time of professional career experience and cover a broad knowledge base, the SBE Specialist Certifications focus on a specific understanding of a technology. Other Specialist certifications include the 8-VSB Specialist (8-VSB), AM Directional Specialist (AMD), and the Digital Radio Broadcast Specialist (DRB).
Upgrade, add to or obtain your SBE certification today.
