How does Washington State perform on diabetes care?

It's National Diabetes Awareness Month and the Washington Health Alliance wants to draw attention to how we perform as a state on caring for individuals with diabetes in the primary care setting.

Figures from the American Diabetes Association (ADA) show that nearly 10% of Washington residents have diabetes, and another 34% have prediabetes – higher than normal blood glucose levels that do not reach the level to be diagnosed as type 2 diabetes. The ADA estimates that nearly 50,000 Washington residents a year are newly diagnosed with diabetes.

With our All-Payer Claim Database, the Alliance tracks seven measures related to diabetes care in Washington State. See how we perform on those measures and the impact where someone lives has on the diabetes care they receive.
