"SnapCodes" needed for registration will be arriving in mail
All families should soon receive a letter with an individualized “SnapCode” that will be used to register for the 2022-23 school year. Letters with the SnapCodes will be sent to the families of new and returning students via U.S. mail starting the week of March 14.

(Families of current eighth-grade students will receive information about registering for high school from the district they will attend.)

It is important that families hold onto this letter because the SnapCode will be needed when registration opens at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 6. A dark blue 2022-23 registration button will be activated on the district’s registration page at that time. Anyone who loses their SnapCode before registration will need to come in to the district office to prove residency. You can see the documents you will need to prove residency here: www.ccsd89.org/Page/8699

Parents are encouraged to complete registration as soon as possible after April 6 to allow the district to plan for staffing and facility needs.

If you do not receive a SnapCode by Monday, April 4, you will need to call the district office to set up a time to prove residency.

More information about registration can be found at: www.ccsd89.org/register
Board to consider bond question at March 21 meeting
At Monday's Board of Education meeting, Board Members will consider whether to place a bond referendum question on the June 28 ballot. The question would allow residents to vote on whether the district can issue bonds for repairs and maintenance at all five CCSD 89 schools. If the referendum passes, the bonds would not increase residents’ taxes.

The district paid off a set of bonds that will expire in 2021, so this spring’s property taxes will already be reduced by an average of $239 per year for district residents. Voters would have to decide whether to renew a second set of bonds. If renewed, the bonds would lower the tax burden for the average CCSD 89 homeowner by an additional $4.

The district would use the bonds to complete dozens of infrastructure projects including replacing roofs and parking lots; installing energy-efficient heating systems; and redesigning two school entrances to improve security. You can learn more about the facilities work at www.ccsd89.org/buildings

If there is a referendum on the June ballot, the district will hold informational meetings where residents can learn more about the district's plans.
Video: Serving others with Inside Out, Junior Leaders clubs
At the February Board of Education meeting, the student spotlight focused on the Junior Leaders and Inside Out clubs at Briar Glen Elementary. Briar Glen previously had the Inside Out Club for second and third graders. In the 2021-22 school year, the school added Junior Leaders for fourth- and fifth-grade students. Both clubs help students think about the world outside their school and how they can take action to serve others.
