Falls Prevention Awareness Week

Falls among older adults continue to be a national public health concern. Falls Prevention Awareness Week is Sept. 23-27, 2024 and is a nationwide observance to raise awareness on preventing falls, reducing the risk of falls, and helping older adults live without fear of falling.

The Howard County Local Health Improvement Coalition (HCLHIC) has print and digital copies of flyers and a list of classes on our website. Coalition members are asked to visit the website and share the resources to help reduce falls in Howard County.

Visit: https://www.hclhic.org/healthy/older-adult or email LHIC@howardcountymd.gov with questions.

Walktober is Almost Here!

Walktober is just a few weeks away! It is celebrated in October across Maryland as part of our State's official exercise and a call to action to promote walking for physical activity and improved health for residents of all ages and abilities.

Join HCLHIC and partners in participating and spreading the word about all the amazing and fun Walktober events!

Visit the HoCo Walktober 2024 page with events and more! Promotional flyers in multiple languages and giveaways are also available.

Community Flu Clinics

The following community flu clinics are available:

  • Regular flu dose events (age 6 months and up)
  • High dose flu events (age 65 and older). Appointment required.

Coalition members are asked to share the share the FREE Senior High Dose Clinics flyer .

News from CAREAPP

CAREAPP helps community members find services for food, health, housing, transportation, education, employment assistance, and more.

CAREAPP Instructional “how-to” videos are now available on the CAREAPP homepage. This allows community-based organizations access to brief tutorials demonstrating how to complete common tasks within the platform such as: editing your program’s resource card, logging a referral, and more.

To view the videos simply log into (or create) your CAREAPP account at hccareapp.org. Listed directly under the User Resources section of the homepage, the videos can be found next to their corresponding tip sheet. These videos are not available on the public CAREAPP site (findhcresources.org).

For more information on this and other advancements to CAREAPP, please contact Shannon Harris at sharris@howardcountymd.gov
