Dear Colleague,
As legislation to avert the U.S. debt ceiling crisis unfolds and funding for the National Health Service Corps (NHSC) hangs in the balance, health centers are continuing to do what they've always done so well: evolve in the face of uncertainty. As the Association of Clinicians for the Underserved advocates for the NHSC and other health extender programs on Capitol Hill, we're also developing new resources to help bolster our community's workforce.
Learn about new workforce resources—including a new HP-ET Financial Impact Assessment Tool, webinars on coaching/mentoring programs and LGBTQI+ workforce retention and resiliency, and free trainings and technical assistance—in addition to Conference news, a look at our vision services grantees' impact, Suicide Safer Care resources, and more below.

All Eyes on the Debt Ceiling Bill: Stay Tuned
With just a week left until the U.S. government could enter financial default, President Joe Biden and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) reached an agreement that would suspend the debt ceiling limit through January 1, 2025. The window for Congress to pass the proposed legislation is tight, and the Fiscal Responsibility Act would have significant implications for U.S. healthcare. Keeping non-defense spending nearly flat with Fiscal Year 2023 levels and phasing in SNAP work requirements, among other measures, the bill's implications for health centers and the National Health Service Corps (NHSC) are significant. ACU is monitoring the situation as we continue to advocate for the NHSC and other health extender programs: watch for updates to come and support the NHSC by becoming an ACU advocate!
