News & Highlights from CCA & our Network

May is Older Americans Month

Every May the Federal Administration for Community Living leads our nation’s observance of Older Americans Month. Here in Colorado, we are going to celebrate Older Coloradans all year!

Colorado Center for Aging and their network are stepping forward to bring together older adults, their families, and those organizations that serve older adults, in a series of educational webinars in May and June and an in-person event happening in July. Past July we will continue our series with monthly webinars that keep exploring and educating all ages of Coloradans on aging issues and show how older adults remain engaged, independent, and included in the community.

At our events, Colorado Center for Aging (CCA) will also be highlighting legislation that CCA has worked on with their advocacy network that benefits and protects older adults in Colorado. Keep in mind that the legislation we work on now, is legislation that may help you when you are an older adult in need of assistance. Each of our webinars and the in-person event will explore resources and help you understand what you do not know. Learn more on our event website - www.OlderColoradansMonth.org

Lawsuit challenges upcoming Colorado ballot measure

"Colorado voters are expected to vote this November on a measure that would reduce property tax rates while also shrinking TABOR refunds for a decade. The ink on the plan isn’t dry yet quite literally, since Gov. Jared Polis hasn’t yet signed the paperwork. But a conservative group is already going to court to try to stop the proposal ..."

What’s Working: Front Range rents were mostly flat in April.

Here’s how they’ve changed over four years.

"Apartment rents changed little in April compared to the same time last year — at least in most Colorado communities. But the flatness comes after two years of soaring costs for renters and homebuyers. Over the past four years, rents in the city of Denver grew 13.8% to $1,568 by April, compared with $1,378 in April 2019. That settled down to a 0.8% annual increase this past year, or $12 more per month from a year ago. That was less than the rate of inflation and one of the lowest increases in the Front Range ..."

A consumer’s guide to Colorado’s new climate-friendly discounts

"It could soon be a lot cheaper for Colorado households to ditch fossil fuels. That’s thanks to a package of climate-related bills signed by Gov. Jared Polis on Thursday. Some of those bills like a commitment to net-zero emissions by 2050 and new rules for investor-owned utilities focus on the technical side of Colorado’s climate efforts. Other pieces cater to consumers by laying out plans for new tax credits and rebates ..."
