Can You Dig It? It's Dig Season at Ferry Farm

Weekdays 8am - 4pm, through July 21st

May is here, which means another season of exciting archaeological work at Ferry Farm is about to begin! We have been conducting archaeological investigations for over 30 years with the aim of recreating and analyzing the 18th-century farm landscape that shaped George Washington during his formative years as a young man.

As seen in the photo above, we'll be digging at two sites. FF-38 contains 18th-century artifacts,

and FF-40 is the vicinity of the original Washington kitchen, which we hope to excavate this summer.

Visitors are welcome to come and watch! Assistance is also welcome at our sifting screens, so come by and get your hands just a little bit dirty as we search for answers in the ground. The crew will be on-site Monday through Friday, 10 am to 4 pm. We are more than happy to answer questions about our work and show visitors the artifacts we find.
