Glass Beach

Glass Beach, located in Fort Bragg, California, is a mesmerizing coastal destination renowned for its unique and captivating beauty. What sets this beach apart from others is its fascinating abundance of sea glass. Over the years, Glass Beach has transformed from a dumping ground to a natural wonder, creating a picturesque landscape covered in shimmering pieces of polished glass.

The origins of this glassy phenomenon can be traced back to the early 20th century when the area served as a dumping site for local residents. Broken glass bottles, ceramics, and other discarded materials were tossed into the ocean, hoping the tides would wash them away. Instead of eliminating the waste, nature worked its magic and transformed the shards into smooth, colorful treasures.

Decades of wave action, tumbling the glass against rocks and sand, resulted in the formation of exquisite sea glass. Today, Glass Beach is composed of tiny pebbles of frosted glass in various hues, including vibrant greens, cobalt blues, soft pinks, and translucent whites. These tiny gems, smoothed by the ocean's relentless caress, sparkle under the sun, creating an awe-inspiring spectacle.

Battery Point Lighthouse

The Battery Point Lighthouse, located in Crescent City, California, is a historic landmark that has been guiding ships since 1856. Situated on a small offshore rocky island, the lighthouse offers breathtaking views of the rugged coastline and the Pacific Ocean. It is renowned for its unique setting, as during high tide, the island is completely surrounded by water, creating a picturesque scene.

Access to the Battery Point Lighthouse is dependent on the tide, as visitors can only reach the island during low tide when a narrow rocky path emerges. A short guided tour offers visitors the opportunity to explore the lighthouse and its surroundings, providing fascinating insights into its history and the maritime heritage of the area. The interior of the lighthouse showcases artifacts, exhibits, and photographs that offer a glimpse into the past.
