Senator Schumer, USDA Representatives on Hand as County Breaks Ground on Light Up Livingston
Following the announcement that Livingston County was awarded $11.3 million in grant funding through the United States Department of Agriculture’s ReConnect Program, U.S. Senate Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer along with USDA New York State Director Brian Murray joined with County representatives, Empire Access and partners to celebrate breaking ground for Light Up Livingston – a generational initiative to bring high-speed, affordable broadband internet to every corner of Livingston County.

Livingston County Hosting Eclipse Presentations May 23rd and May 24th
In less than a year, on April 8, 2024, Livingston County will be in the path of a total solar eclipse, a rare occurrence when the shadow of the moon will completely block the sun. An estimated 350,000 to 500,000 people are predicted to visit the Finger Lakes region for this celestial event. Community leaders and organizers throughout the region are already preparing to play host to thousands of eclipse enthusiasts visiting the weekend and day of the eclipse.

Across the United States, over 214,000 foster parents have opened their homes and hearts to help close to 400,000 youth in need of a loving home. Locally, Livingston County has a long-standing history of helping those in need by providing guidance, shelter and healthy environments where infants, toddlers and teens can receive the education, healthcare, respect and direction needed to live full, productive lives.

NEW YORK STATE ANNOUNCES FUNDING TO PROTECT WATER QUALITY AND SOIL HEALTH AROUND THE FINGER LAKES
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and Department of Agriculture and Markets (AGM) has announced $370,000 for the Finger Lakes Cover Crop Initiative. The initiative helps support farmers’ use of cover crops to reduce erosion, implement watershed management plans, and protect water quality in and around the 11 Finger Lakes: Conesus, Hemlock, Canadice, Honeoye, Canandaigua, Keuka, Seneca, Cayuga, Owasco, Skaneateles, and Otisco.

Livingston County Actively Recruiting for Summer Youth Employment Program
The program is open to anyone between the ages of 14-20 that live within Livingston County and meet eligibility requirements including household income. Applicants in foster care or in households that receive cash assistance, Medicaid, HEAP, SSI and SNAP benefits are automatically eligible.
