Hoping summer brings peace, rest and inspiration

It's been a challenging 2 years for educators, students and parents. The shift from in-classroom to remote or hybrid learning provided new obstacles to navigate. We're happy to have been able to help teachers through our open-access portal, which saw an increase in visitors. The expanded offerings made it easier to keep science personal and fun. And we're glad to hear from teachers, who purchased units that they appreciated the flexibility and cost.

We're off to a good start in 2022, and continue to make strides in several areas, including partnerships and sales across the country. Looking forward to seeing what the second half brings. We hope your summer brings rest, relaxation and new inspiration for your elementary science class.

CreositySpace is Presenting at the STEM Summer Institute at SUNY Alfred, July 25, 2022

This year's focus is integrating 2 or more STEM disciplines with an emphasis on elementary STEM. Of course we're happy to finally see K-5 get some attention. So many students self-select out of science because they don't think they can "do" science, while others don't see how their non-STEM interests or talents open opportunities to work with exciting technology-focused or engineering companies. According to an October 2021 report from the National Academies of Science Engineering and Math, failure to connect kids to science/STEM in elementary schools directly affects long term workforce development.

Dr. Annette Venegas will introduce attendees to our Green Architects unit, through her Green Architects: The Wall Is Alive professional development session. In this session Annette will discuss her experiences of using the topic of green architecture (e.g., green roofs, reused & local building materials) and sustainable design (e.g., use of native plants & water saving techniques in landscaping) in a variety of elementary settings.

This annual conference is sponsored by SUNY Alfred State College and the NYS STEM Education Collaborative, Inc., and draws teachers and administrators from across New York State. You can find more information on the STEM Summer Institute here. More information here.

We are thrilled to partner with the New York Academy of Sciences. They will use a modified version of our Community Designers unit for their 2022 summer STEM camp. In previous years, the camp drew ~840 students in 35 classrooms across NYC and the surrounding boroughs. The camp is slated to run twice a week for 5 weeks.

You can learn more about their Global STEM Alliance here.

Sheridan Preparatory Academy

We're looking forward to working with Sheridan Preparatory Academy, a community school in the Albany City School District in Albany, NY. They'll be using the Green Architects unit and My STEM Explorer kit as the foundation for their STEM Enrichment and Afterschool Programs.

Kent School District

Although we have been working with Kent, WA school district for a number of years, we're excited to announce the approval of CreositySpace as a qualified supplemental science and engineering curriculum provider. We look forward to working with more teachers and students in this expanded capacity.
