Bingo will still be happening May 31st

This month the MCPL Adult Readers Book Club will be discussing “In the Unlikely Event” by Judy Blume. This is one of just four adult novels written by this iconic author, and the first adult novel she has written in 17 years. This historical fiction takes place in 1950’s New Jersey, and follows fifteen-year-old Miri Ammerman and her friends and family as they cope with three plane crashes that all occur nearby within a year. The plane crashes are actually based on real life plane crashes which occurred in the authors home town from ’51-’52. The book club will meet to discuss this book on June 27th at 5:30PM.

“Panicked, the community draws together, struggling to find a reason for the disasters. Could it mean something that all three crashes narrowly missed schools? Was this the work of Communists, an A-bomb, or even aliens or sabotage? Was it the fault of Newark Airport, which many push to shut down? No one knows, and no one has seen anything like this before.” -- Caroline Leavitt, New York Times.
