The annual Service Showcase and Celebration recognizes a year of service and community-engaged work at KU.


The event will feature recognition of CSL Award recipients, Certificate in Service Learning graduates, and more!

CSL Ambassador Program

The CSL Ambassador Program connects faculty, staff, students, and community partners who are interested in promoting service-learning and civic engagement.


Ambassadors serve as liaisons to their department, unit, organization, and network to champion the integration of community and civic engagement.

Engaged KU Story Map

The Engaged KU Story Map highlights stories that exemplify the university’s community engagement across projects in research and scholarship, learning, and civic participation. This initiative spotlights the diverse ways that KU departments, units, and multidisciplinary initiatives are manifesting their commitment to community engagement.


To include a story of community-engaged efforts, submit a project for the Engaged KU Story Map.



Certificate in Service Learning

The Certificate in Service Learning recognizes undergraduate students' experiences in utilizing classroom skills to meet community-identified needs through service and civic action.


Once a student has earned the certificate, it is acknowledged on their official academic transcript.

Service Learning Course Designation

If your courses incorporate community engagement, volunteer, or service components, it may qualify for our Service Learning Course Designation!


Designated courses count towards the service learning course requirement for the Certificate in Service Learning.

Service Learning Instructional Mini-Grants

Mini-grants encourage and support faculty in engaging students with the broader community through service-learning, by integrating community-based experiences and learning as part of the course curriculum.


Faculty of all career tracks (full and part time) can apply for $500-$1,000 per course section.


Mini-Grant applications are accepted on a rolling basis.



Community-Engaged Scholarship Spotlight: ARISE

ARISE stands for “Adaptive and Resilient Infrastructures driven by Social Equity.”


The ARISE project "seeks to advance the resilience of infrastructures that all Kansans depend on—such as water, energy, and transportation systems—by creating tools that ensure support for our most vulnerable communities in both rural and urban areas."

Call for Proposals: Michigan Journal of Community Service Learning

The Michigan Journal of Community Service Learning (MJCSL) is an open access, peer-reviewed journal that publishes content relevant to service learning and civic engagement.


MJCSL is currently accepting proposals for upcoming journal issues.

Call for Proposals: International Journal of Research on Service-Learning and Community Engagement

The International

Journal of Research on Service-Learning and Community Engagement (IJRSLCE) has issued a call for manuscripts for the 2023 journal volume.


The deadline for manuscripts to be submitted for the 2023 volume is May 15, 2023.

Upcoming Event: Engaged Scholarship Symposium

Join Swarthmore College's Lang Center for Civic and Social Responsibility virtually on April 25 - 27 (Noon - 1:30 PM each day) for their seventh annual Engaged Scholarship Symposium. 


Swarthmore is collaborating with Campus Compact, Partners in Campus Community Engagement, and Engagement Scholarship Consortium to explore various engaged scholarship themes across different types of higher education institutions.
