What is your dream for the Church?
  • “I didn’t plan on sharing my story at first, but the others were so honest and heartfelt that I really was given the courage by being in this group. It was so powerful.”
  • “I am hopeful about this process. I think the Holy Spirit can do more than we ever imagined. We can be cynical, but this is different, this is a new moment.”
  • “Painful/powerful/wonderful. The Holy Spirit is alive and well.”

Every member of the Cathedral community is invited to participate in the worldwide Synodal process initiated by Pope Francis. “Every encounter–as we know–calls for openness, courage and a willingness to let ourselves be challenged by the presence and the stories of others…. the experience of encounter changes us; frequently it opens up new and unexpected possibilities” (Pope Francis). Sign up online to attend ONE gathering, and share your dream for the Church:

SUNDAY HOSPITALITY RETURNS AFTER 10:00AM MASS SUNDAY Please come to Cathedral Hall after the 10:00am Mass this Sunday for coffee, doughnuts (the gift of Krispy Kreme!), fruit, and a chance to enjoy the company of your fellow parishioners. After a two-year hiatus, it will be great to be able to share this simple fellowship again.

ST. VINCENT DE PAUL COLLECTION Because of Easter last Sunday, we were unable to take up our regular Third Sunday St. Vincent de Paul Society collection. We will do so following all the Masses this weekend. At the 10:00am Mass on April 24, your offerings will be received by our own Vincentians.

ST VINCENT DE PAUL HELPS A NEIGHBOR CATCH UP A middle-age man working in a health administration job had his hours cut to part-time. In addition to his diminished income, he lost a roommate and experienced health issues. Despite moving to a less expensive apartment in the same building, he found it difficult to get on top of his rent obligation. The man called the St Vincent de Paul Helpline requesting assistance (206-767-6449). With your help we were able to pledge assistance toward his rent and referred him to another resource which was able to pay a significant portion of his back rent. The man now has hope to catch up with his finances and is looking for a full-time job. Information, Jo Ann Wiesner, 206-291-4012 or wiesnerjo@gmail.com.

We are a unique blend of our Faith Mentor and Children’s Faith Formation program, and provide Sacramental Preparation, as well opportunities for friendship with other youth. Information, faithfriends@stjames-cathedral.org or stjames-faithfriends.weebly.com.

IMMIGRANT ASSISTANCE SEEKING TUTORS Would you like to help an immigrant/refugee learn English or help prepare for their citizenship interview? The time commitment is 1-2 hours a week for a minimum of 6 months. Pre-service training is provided. Information, Sayuko Setvik, 206-382-4511 or ssetvik@stjames-cathedral.org.

YOUTH V GOV In this climate change superhero movie, armed with a wealth of evidence, twenty-one courageous leaders file a ground-breaking lawsuit against the U.S. government, asserting it has willfully acted over six decades to create the climate crisis, thus endangering their constitutional rights to life, liberty, and property. Two screenings on Zoom will be on Monday, April 25, 5pm and Tuesday, April 26, 6:30pm. On Wednesday, April 27, 4:30pm, join a webinar conversation with the filmmaker and two young plaintiffs (who are people of faith) from the film. Registration, Patrick Barredo, pbarredo@stjames-cathedral.org.

ALL CATHEDRAL READS BOOK CLUB Recently, our parish Sponsor Circle Team welcomed two refugee families from Afghanistan. Under the direction of the St. James Immigrant Assistance Program, we helped these families integrate into American culture, find the resources they and their children need, and provide English language tutoring. To help welcome these families, and better understand their experience, the Immigrant Assistance Program is sponsoring an “All Cathedral Reads” book club about Afghanistan entitled The Sewing Circles of Herat by Christina Lamb. The book chronicles the courage and ingenuity of the Afghan people during the first rule of the Taliban in the early 2000s. The book is readily available, and there will also be some copies in the Cathedral bookstore. Parishioners will be invited to participate in a discussion of the book May 24 at 6:30pm on Zoom. Registration, Christopher Koehler, ckoehler@stjames-cathedral.org.

THE CRS RICE BOWL THANKS YOU St. James Cathedral joined with many other Catholic parishes across the United States to change lives this Lent through CRS Rice Bowl, and we want to say THANK YOU! Through your past generosity, Guatemalans Lilian and her husband Raúl were trained in gardening techniques and received seed funds to start an agribusiness through CRS projects. Today they supply their produce to 16 schools and are able to hire around 15 people during harvest time. Supporting local farmers not only builds a strong school meal program and helps feed students, it bolsters local economies and communities. If you missed the Rice Bowl, you can donate online at crsricebowl.org/give.

JOB OPENING IN THE CATHEDRAL KITCHEN The Cathedral Kitchen, which serves 100 meals each weeknight to our homeless and low-income neighbors, is looking to hire a new paid, staff member to our team. Responsibilities include oversight of the grocery store gleaning program, working with dedicated staff and volunteers to prepare dinners, and interacting with Kitchen guests. Candidates must have a valid Washington State driver license and be able to lift cases of produce and canned goods. Information, Patrick Barredo, pbarredo@stjames-cathedral.org or 206-382-4515.
