Supporting Your Practice

Clinical Integration Updates: View the latest program updates including updates on QURE contract, statin measures updated to Cerner, 2023 CI scorecard report available and more.

Supporting patients on Medicaid: With the unwinding of the COVID Public Health Emergency, people are required to recertify their Medicaid coverage for the first time since the start of the pandemic over a 14-month period beginning April 2023. We are committed to helping our patients with support and resources, including information on ACA plans if they are no longer Medicaid eligible. Many include our vast networks. Patients can be directed to our Financial Advocates (877-732-6334). Learn more: flyer and FAQ. Stay tuned for more information.

Comprehensive Annual Visits: Physicians can now refer patients with chronic conditions and open care gaps for a Comprehensive Annual Visit, an in-home visit or a virtual visit for Medicare Advantage and MSSP patients. View flyer.

Paxlovis now available for inpatient use: Beginning on April 20, ritonavir-boosted nirmatrelvir (Paxlovid) will be available as an oral alternative to remdesivir primarily for inpatients who are at high risk of progressing to severe disease and are within five days of symptom onset. Paxlovid will be a formulary-restricted agent requiring clinical pharmacist review against established criteria. Given the many potential DDIs with ritonavir-boosted nirmatrelvir, it’s important to use the COVID interaction drug checker for every prescription ordered and each time after initial verification. Patients can be discharged before completing the course and sent home with the remainder of the individual dosing blister pack. Learn more.

New physician and APC Wi-Fi network: A new, secure wireless network dedicated to our physicians and APCs is now available for use with your personal devices while at Advocate Health Care hospitals and ambulatory clinics. The new Wi-Fi network will make it easier for physicians and APCs to stay up-to-date on communications, access Duo multi-factor authentication and more. Learn how to access.

Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) Project: Scheduled to go live in Epic on April 20, we are launching a surgical prevention initiative to reduce hospital acquired AKI. Learn more on the Epic Quick Start Guide or reach out to your local site collaborative partner.

Pharmacy & Therapeutics March updates: Review the latest Pharmacy and Therapeutics ambulatory and regional committees’ decisions. View Summary.

Flushing and locking implanted ports with saline: Effective April 20, saline will now be the standard solution used for flushing and locking implanted venous ports. Heparin will no longer be used, except for specific patient clinical situations, determined and ordered by the physician or APC. Implanted Port Maintenance Order Set will be updated to reflect this practice change. All implanted port flushing information within Epic, therapy plans, and applicable policies and procedures will be updated to reflect the practice change in the near future. Learn more

Keeping our patients and teammates safe: Check out the latest policies with an updated process for personal infusions pumps and guidelines on patient safety interventions and use of force.

Saving lives - blood donation: Register today for an April blood drive at one of our Advocate or Aurora sites to ensure an adequate and continuous blood supply throughout our communities. Sign up to donate.

Service Line Integration Update

As we continue to advance our Service Line integration, Urgent/Immediate Care (UC/IC) is now a standalone department spanning both Illinois and Wisconsin. This is a positive step forward as UC/IC has continued to grow and is a critical access point for our patients. It warrants focused attention as we aim to deliver a consistent, connected experience for those seeking and accessing our services across our Midwest Region, with exceptional health outcomes.

In alignment with this news, Brian Oostman, DO, has been appointed Medical Director, Urgent Care – Midwest Region. In this role, Dr. Oostman will serve as the clinical leader responsible for the design, performance and strategic direction for clinical programs across our UC/IC locations in Illinois and Wisconsin, including our Advocate and Aurora Clinic at Walgreens sites.
