Happy New Year from the Loisaida Inc. Center!

We hope you have been able to ease back into the New Year after a wonderful holiday season.
2015 was an incredible year for Loisaida Inc. and the Lower East Side community. Before we jump in to 2016, w e wanted to take just a moment to reflect upon a few of the highlights from last year which, without your support, wouldn't have been possible - thank you!
2015 YEAR IN REVIEW: A few highlights
Loisaida's Artistic Residency Program.
  • One of our best Artists in Residence year yet, FLUX Theater Ensemble managed to produce and run a full length, site-specific original play titled SALVAGE written by August Shulenburg and directed by Heather Cohn. The play got numerous reviews and general praise by the NYC theater community.
  • L oisaida Inc. is currently the headquarters of René Pérez Joglar better known as Residente , Puerto Rican rapper, writer, producer and founder of the alternative rap group Calle 13 . He has won 24 Grammy awards in total and is now working on a new project at the Loisaida Inc. Center.
The 2015 Loisaida Festival - One Neighborhood, an Entire Community.
  • For the second year in a row this historic festival has been a platform for internationally recognized musicians such as Chicano Batman (California), Calma Carmona (Puerto Rico) and Papote Jimenez y su Orquesta (New York). The festival also delivers ground-breaking programming, dance performances, folkloric musical presentations, and arts and crafts exhibitions that showcase the work of artisans that represent diverse ethnic groups and nationalities.
¡PRESENTE! The Young Lords in New York at Loisaida Inc. Center
  • A historic exhibition that amplified the Loisaida community's voice city-wide and internationally, nurtured trans-generational participation, initiated prestigious new partnerships, and broadened our community.The exhibition achieved more than 30 articles/ media mentions in print and video. It was listed as part of the TOP 10 shows of 2015 by the New York Times and part of the TOP 20 most memorable exhibits of 2015 by Art Net. In the last quarter (Sept - Dec) we hosted more than 800 exhibition related visitors and conducted more than 25 guided tours to youth, higher education and community organizations.
