Celebration of Life for Anthony Arnaud

Grace St. Paul’s will have a Celebration of Life for Anthony Arnaud on Saturday, June 3, at 10:30 a.m.

Tony was a larger than life character who made a deep impact on many people’s lives in New York City, Blue Hill, Maine, and in Tucson. He was married to GSP’s Dee Arnaud, who was a stalwart in our parish for over 20 years, never missing a Sunday.

Please join as we honor Tony on June 3.

Gender Justice and Nonviolence

an online workshop for GSP and Friends

Tues. 6-27   5-6:30 PM

A Time to Share, Learn and Grow with other Courageous People

Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. held that nonviolence is “a way of life for courageous people.” This way of life includes all of who we are and who we are becoming, including our beautiful and diverse gender identities and expressions. As more people are targeted in our society, we need even more faithful and strategic nonviolence; and for that we need practical tools rooted in proven strategies and informed by lived experiences. That is exactly what you’ll find in this workshop.

Facilitators

Rev. Jerry Maynard a Two-Spirit Indigenous and Latinx Independent Catholic priest from Texas, and

Rev. Lauren Grubaugh-Thomas (she-her), a nurturer of faithful dissidents in Littleton, Colorado. Lauren is in the Trinity Program with Jessica.

Organizational Support

The workshop itself comes to us from the Pace e Bene Nonviolence Service. “Pace e bene!” (pah-chay bay-nay) is an Italian greeting from Saints Francis and Clare. The blessing wishes, “Peace and all Good!” to anyone we encounter.

Be sure to save the date and time:

Tuesday, June 27, 2023

5-6:30 PM Pacific time

How to register and participate:

Use the link below to reach the Campaign Nonviolence web site. There you’ll find the registration form and methods of payment: $35.00 with some scholarships available for those unable to pay. https://paceebene.org/events/2023/6/27/gender-justice

The newly forming GSP Committee for Adult Education and Spiritual Growth is happy to alert all of Grace Saint Paul’s (and friends) to this workshop. We are a committee in the process of becoming.

Co-Chairs are Patricia Donohue ([email protected]) and Sandi Nesbit ([email protected]). We are looking for a small group of GSPers to help us plan, promote and produce learning and spiritual growth opportunities. We hope to get rolling next Fall though we’re anxious to gather ideas and interests through the Summer. If you are interested in being part of the committee on an ongoing basis OR if you have a particular idea/interest you would like your committee to address, please send us an email. No email? Please send your message through the church administrator or Fr Steve. Pace e bene to you all.

Hello wonderful people of GSP,

We need some adult volunteers at our Nourish Nights this summer - this is in place of our typical summer camp. Dates are June 6, June 27, July 11, and July 18 from 6-8pm (if you can arrive at 5:30 and stay until 8:30, that helps with set up and clean up, too, but is not necessary if time is tight for you).

It is going to be a fun time for dinner and fellowship, music, a story, a messy and fun activity, and games for families of all ages and sizes.

Please let me know if you can help at one or more of these events! Parents will stay with kids and we will be all together, but extra hands and hearts will help immensely!

You will need to have your safeguarding done, so let me know if you need a link for that.

Kindly,

Jessica

SPIRIT PLAYERS FIRST FRIDAY PLAY READING FOR JUNE

"ONCE IN A LIFETIME" by George Kaufman and Moss Hart

FRIDAY, JUNE 2@6:30 p.m.

The offering for the June Spirit Players' First Friday Play Reading is a classic comedy that is not often produced these days because of the size of the cast (38 characters), George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart's "Once in a Lifetime".  Written in 1930, it's the story of Jerry, May, and George, three small-time vaudevillians who, down on their luck and seeing the enormous success of the first talking picture, decide to head West and strike it rich in Hollywood. Their plan? To offer elocution lessons to actors whose voices aren't ready to make the transition from silents to talking motion pictures. (Think "Singing in the Rain") Due to consistent blunders, the most slow-witted (but lovable) of the three is carried to pinnacles of fame and fortune until he's literally made a titan of the industry. It's a fast paced comedy romp with a satirical edge.

It all begins on Zoom at 6:30 p.m. on June 2; you can show up early to catch up with other readers and events if you wish. We should finish by 9:00 p.m. All are welcome to attend, either as readers or "audience". No reading or theatrical experience is needed. Let Nanalee Raphael ([email protected]) know of your interest by Tuesday, May 30 at 11 p.m. Cast lists will then be drawn up and emailed along with the Zoom link and scripts to all who wish to attend. This play is suitable for humans of all ages.

Spirit Song/Taize will be changed from

June 1 to Thursday June 8 at 5:00 pm in the chancel.

The service will continue on the first Thursdays in July and August.

CENTERING PRAYER FOLLOW-UP MEETINGS AT GSP

FRIDAYS MAY 19TH THROUGH JUNE 23RD

The Centering Prayer Introductory Workshop on Saturday May 6 was wonderful, and they have given us 6 DVDs with Fr. Thomas Keating teaching about the practice and meaning of Centering Prayer. They last about 20 minutes each.

We will meet Fridays at 11:30 am from May 19th to June 23rd in the Bloom Room so we can watch these videos. Then we’ll take a short break and begin our usual time of centering prayer practice and sharing at 12 noon.

Everyone is welcome to come to these, and please tell friends who may be interested in finding out more about this beautiful, ancient practice.

Are you looking for a way to give back? Do you want to provide a helping hand for an hour or two to help feed the houseless, the hungry, families in need, and others in our community of pilgrims?

If so, then please consider joining Bread from the Pantry! Our mission is to “be bread” for each other and for those in need. Surplus bread from Beyond Bread’s Campbell location is collected nightly, then sorted and distributed to local shelters, church food banks, and social service groups.

Please join us in our walk with Christ by calling the parish office at (520) 327-6857 and providing your contact information. Thank you!

PACC Update

Grace St. Paul's still has the PACC Ministry.

The box has been moved into the parish administrative office.
