Meet Candidates Preaching at October Presbytery Meeting

Presbytery of the James will convene the 112th meeting at Westminster Church in Richmond and via Zoom on Saturday, October 15. 


The meeting will include sermons from two ordination candidates. The candidates will preach concurrently in separate break-out rooms. As part of the registration process, attendees may choose a candidate to hear preach.

Providence Celebrates 275th Anniversary

On October 22, Providence Church in Gum Spring celebrates 275 years of ministry by holding a heritage day. This community event explores the time when the church started. Eat Brunswick stew, cornbread, and desserts. Enjoy bluegrass music, reenactments, and craft demonstrations. Children will find special activities just for them.

Pastor to Portray Saint Athanasius

John Grotz, pastor of Kirk O' Cliff Church in Mineral, presents a special worship service on October 30 at 11:00 a.m. See Pastor John reenact the life of Saint Athanasius, defender of the Nicene Creed (325 A.D.). Athanasius repeatedly faced death and exile while proclaiming Jesus as "true God of true God." For more information, please call 540-825-6580.

Registration Open for Women's Retreat

October 21-22, spend a night away at Camp Hanover with a great group of ladies, growing in your faith. Barbara Chalfant, presbyter for congregational life, will lead discussion about times of transition for Biblical women. What tools did they use to manage change? Use these discussions to help with your transitions. Laugh and celebrate together, share stories, develop new friendships, and find support for the wilderness places in life. Registration is open through October 17.

Union Seminary Presents Workshop on Play

Learn about the theological, spiritual, and neurological dimensions and benefits of play in an interactive workshop at Union Seminary. Have fun, dig deeper into play, and learn play practices to use and apply to your own settings. The workshop is October 14 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
