As the warm weather set in this spring, Ms. Morse’s home in West Point became extremely hot. It appeared her HVAC was out. After looking for multiple bids to replace the unit, she quickly realized they were too expensive. COVID had hit her family hard financially and there wasn’t enough money in savings to replace her HVAC.

To make matters worse, she feared for the health of her kids while not having heat or air conditioning. Her teenage son has Von Willebrand disease, a rare bleeding disorder. Her daughter suffers from eczema. Ms. Morse and her son both suffer from asthma. With no way of regulating the home’s temperature, all these conditions are intensified.

Not knowing what to do next, she remembered that during COVID, 211 was a lifeline for assistance. She called again and learned about Habitat’s critical repair program. Habitat partnered with Blazer Heating & Air who donated the equipment and labor. After a day’s worth of work from Blazer, she and her kids will be able to sleep comfortably in her home. She won’t have to worry about her kid’s health, and she can easily work from home.

Hanover & King William Habitat for Humanity’s critical repair program improves homes to reduce negative health outcomes and support a healthy home environment. Projects like Ms. Morse’s HVAC unit is a testimony of how Habitat can improve the health of a family.

Novelis Can Grant

Did you know recycling cans brings additional funding to Hanover and King William Habitat and helps offset costs associated with building affordable homes and making repairs?

Habitat has been collecting cans to further its mission since 1999. Between May and July, the number of cans collected will help Habitat compete in a Novelis grant.

There will be 3 winners, based on how many pounds are collected. In order to be at the top, we need your support! Bring your clean cans into our ReStore or a Hanover transfer station at one of our 'can huts'.

Ways to Support Habitat

21-82007-hitk-social-post-instagram-a.jpg

Thank you to everyone who donated to our month-long Home is the Key fundraiser at the ReStore. Customers were encouraged to donate at the check-out toward our goal of $200. The response from customers was amazing and we raised over $350! We sincerely appreciate our customer’s support of our mission.

Earlier this month we mailed our spring fundraising letter. Thank you to everyone who has donated to date. Your support is very much appreciated!

If you have not yet made your donation in support of HKW Habitat’s Annual Fund, you can do so online, where you make credit card or ACH gifts. All gifts are welcomed and bring us closer to providing affordable housing and critical repairs for our community members.

Consider these two easy ways to increase your donation:

  • participate in our recurring monthly gift program
  • check with your employer to see if they will match your donation

Any Leads?

We have received funds for a replacement ReStore truck through a grant. Our existing trucks are extremely old and in disrepair. Unfortunately, there are no trucks in inventory at any area car dealership. After months of searching, we are now asking the community if they have any leads for a 16-foot box truck, new or used. The truck must be in good working order, with low mileage and we would prefer one with a liftgate. If you have any leads, please contact us!
