The 2021 stuffed animal drive collected 398 stuffed animals for the Child Advocacy Center.

Stuffed Animal Drive: October 3rd-7th

Time to clean out those extra snuggly friends! The Early Learners at The Summit are having a stuffed animal drive this week! Each trimester Summit students will be hosting a service learning project. Early Learners are leading for the first trimester and would love for all Summit Ravens to help out!

Please help us collect new or gently used stuffed animals Monday, October 3rd-7th. There will be boxes set up in The Summit lobby and near the Early Learners' classrooms for donations.

All donations will go to benefit the Child Advocacy Center. The leaders of this organization are overjoyed to use our donations while assisting and supporting local children. This is the third time The Summit has partnered with the CAC and they are thrilled to join us again. Our previous stuffed animal drive in 2021 helped to gather over three hundred cuddly friends for local children!

Save the Date: Parent Education

On Monday, October 24th, The Summit will be hosting a viewing of the webinar Thrivers: What Really Helps Kids Find Happiness Today and Success Tomorrow at 2:00 pm in the Music Room on campus. This webinar, presented by the Independent School Association of the Central States (ISACS) features Michele Borba, Educational Psychologist and Author.

All Summit families are invited to attend the viewing from 2:00-3:00 pm and stay for discussion until carline at 3:30 pm. Please let us know if you can attend! If you can’t make it but are interested in accessing the recording, you may indicate that in the RSVP form as well.

See below for a summary of Dr. Borba's presentation:

Data shows that today’s youth are the loneliest, most stressed, and risk-averse on record. Though well-educated, they are failing to launch in real life. So how can we teach them to be mentally strong and more successful? Borba empowers both educators and parents to help kids thrive in today’s fast-paced, digital-driven, often uncertain world. Through her research, she found that the difference between those who struggle and those who succeed comes down to the personal traits that set Thrivers apart and set them up for happiness, as well as greater potential later in life. She offers practical, actionable ways to develop these Thrivers traits for kids and shows you how to teach your children to cope today, so they can flourish tomorrow in school and life. These are lessons that will last a lifetime.

Around Campus

7th & 8th Grade Tapestries

Seventh and eighth graders built their own looms in order to start weaving their own landscape-inspired tapestries. You can see the display at the base of the stairs behind the front desk.

Frist Grade Field Trip

First graders had an amazing trip on Monday to the Springfield Sanitary Landfill and Franklin Ave Recycling Center.

"We learned so much about how trash is processed and the impact it has on the environment. At our first stop, we saw trash being processed in the landfill. We learned about where the trash goes and how it is handled to keep from polluting the area nearby. We even got to touch the types of materials that create the protective barrier that keeps trash contained. We learned that a landfill can only hold so much trash. Once it is full, the city must find somewhere new to put trash and that's a tricky task! That's why it's so important that we do our part to make sure we keep as much out waste of the landfill as we can!" - Ms. Ursino
