A note from Chapter President, Susan Stein Kregar, CAE, CNAP, Desert Lotus Group
Hello NAWIC Members and Friends,
I recently attended the NAWIC Pacific Southwest Region Conference in Irvine. There were tool and robot demonstrations and a lot of connecting with women for other chapters and sharing ideas. Cheryl Osborn, one of the guest speakers founded and owns a large general contracting company in California. She had to knock on a lot of doors to get where she is. She got there with the formula Ignorance + Persistence = Success. I love her motto: No matter what you do, you should do it in amazing shoes!
Tricia Karerger, an executive in risk management for a construction company and author of The B Words gave us a new twist on what the B-word really means. I bought a book for myself and one for the chapter to kick off our new lending library!
A really nifty safety idea was shared. One company requires their workers to keep a photo of their loved ones in their safety vest. It is a reminder to keep safety first every day so they can go home to their families every day.
There was a lot of NAWIC business too. Four dollars from each membership is sent to their region’s fund. The money is used for the region events like the forum. It is not a fundraiser. It is to help keep the event costs down so more people can afford to attend.
The region’s leaders talked about the need and requirement to rotate committee chairs. So, if there is a committee that interest you, join it, learn what its role is in our chapter and in a year or two step up to chair it. This is a great opportunity for our newest members to get involved! There are plenty of committees to join. The more people involved the more our chapter can offer.
The election for the 2022-23 board of directors is complete. Congratulations to these ladies who has made the selfless commitment to serve our chapter.

Please Welcome the Following New Members

Samantha Beck was raised in Tucson graduated and from Canyon Del Oro high school. She graduated from Pima Community College for dental hygiene.
Besides being a mother, becoming a hygienist was one of her biggest accomplishments in life. It’s such a rewarding career! She loved being able to make people smile. She also enjoyed getting to know all her patients and their families. In 2018 her husband, Josh, acquired Mountain Power. He was a previous employee for 10 years. She then joined Mountain Power in October of 2018 and has been enjoying her role as HR/payroll manager as well as assisting Josh with admin duties ever since. In the last few years, she has also kept her dental hygiene license active and occasionally subs at offices.
Mountain Power was founded in 1985. We primarily do new construction and renovation in the commercial & industrial sector. Our specialties include commercial and industrial lighting and power, sound systems, communications, hospital systems, fire alarm systems, high voltage power line installation, substations, roadway lighting, outdoor lighting, traffic signals and underground power.
Mountain Power recently announced that they added a service department for commercial and residential. Welcome Samantha!

Jennie Uhlmann is an advocate who works in real estate. "Yes, I help people buy and sell homes and land- but I’m not a salesperson. For a long time, I taught French and Latin. The word 'agent' comes from the Latin word, 'ago, agere' which means to do, drive, or compel. That’s what I do as an agent- I do, I drive, I compel- I’m not a salesperson; I make things happen. I listen, I strategize, I make connections, and I see things through to the end. Every transaction is different, so the resources required are always different. Selling one home might require a remodel; helping another client buy a piece of land might mean providing resources to help them decide if they can do with the land what they want. I like the challenge of being the resource for my clients, and I’m excited to join NAWIC to be connected with other women who get things done.
United Real Estate Specialists is a brokerage started in Tucson three years ago. Our broker, Louis Parrish, has been in real estate for thirty years, and left another large brokerage to start United here in Southern Arizona. United’s motto is “Find Your Freedom”- because the model reduces administrative burdens in order to create a responsive and adaptable office- and one that allows agents to keep most of their commissions, rather than paying heavy splits to their broker. Welcome, Jennie!
