We would just like to start this newsletter off by saying Thank You to everyone that voted for us this year in the 2022 Appen media awards for Best Interior Designer of North Atlanta. We truly couldn't do it without your love and support. Speaking of accolades we wanted to share the exciting news. Look out for Kat's beautiful home in the October publication of Modern Luxury Interiors. If you have had the pleasure of seeing it and tasting all the beautiful food and drinks to come out of that kitchen then you know the amount of love and hard work that went into it. From the custom painted dark green diamond paneled cabinetry to the not one, but two white oak islands that are home to Kat's essentials in the kitchen. It is truly a sight to be seen. Along with Kat's dream kitchen, in the article you will also find different areas of her home to see how she turned a 1980's builder grade home into a custom masterpiece.

As designers, we often say you don't want to have too many focal points in the room. It becomes hard for the eye to differentiate the many little "moments" in the space. Although her faucet may be jaw-dropping, you can't help but admire her brick range wall also. The ledge just might be the best part due to the fact that Kat has the ability to add her own personal touches with design details. It is those little tweaks in a design that take the space from a "standard" kitchen to her "custom" friends and family kitchen.

We have some super exciting projects that will make your jaw- drop that we can't wait to share. A speakeasy that is accessed through a bank vault door, along with a kitchen that you will want to bake in all season long. An 80's lake cabin refresh that melts your worries away with ease, and a stunning mountain new build home that is the epitome of rest and relaxation, just to name a few!

As we enter sweater weather, here at Kat Nelson Designs we are no stranger to what layering and adding depth can do to your own home. Along with layering techniques, color can also be the unsung hero in a space. We have been implementing our fair share of color and trend forecasting and we are happy to say that those dark warm tones, we all know and love, aren't going anywhere! Some hue's that we have been loving this season are deep rich tones such as violets, hunter greens and warm browns to bring in that depth. Alongside those fall themed colors we also can't get enough of plaid! Mix that in with a fun print and you've got yourself a mixed-match made in heaven. And if you think you can't mix your patterns just know that you can and that you should!  We have been busy in and out of the studio to help you create the space of your dreams and so that means lots of trips to see some of our favorite vendors and find you the fresh, yet timeless pieces to outfit your home.

Speaking of all things new and fresh, Kat and her team will be making the trip to High Point, North Carolina for the market to check out the new trends for 2023 to give you the inside scoop on all the up and coming things. Make sure you are following us on all of our social media platforms for all the inspiration and to be the first to know what's new and fresh!

Stay well and Live Beautifully!

We thought we would switch up the tempo and show you how to style your walls like a pro!

Picture this. All of your furniture has arrived and your installing the last few pieces into your space. It all looks great, but it's just missing that last little touch! Let us tell you about a few of our favorite styling tips to really take that space up a notch!

Do you have a collection of items that have been in the family for decades, a plethora of instruments, or really cool knick-knacks? If you do then lucky you! Using collections to create gallery walls is a great way to create a personalized focal point and interest into the space. Our favorite part about adding collections into a design is that, more often then not, they are filled with pieces that mean something to the homeowner. This allows for so much personality and life to come into their rooms.

Color can get confusing when it comes to styling because if you bring in too many your color palette that you spent all that time curating becomes confusing and messy. In turn, without enough color in your space, the room can end up looking flat, boring, and unintentional.

Another favorite way to use color can be referenced in the last photo above! The room has a neutral and tonal palette, so in this scenario you're going to want to go for a color that has heavy contrast against your base color to create that pop! The easiest way to do that is by bringing in a fresh bouquet of flowers. The space looks so interesting and inviting! Plus, who doesn't love having fresh flowers around the house!

In today's market it can feel impossible to find your dream home. Building costs seem to keep climbing, so the only way to make your dream space come to life would be to renovate. It can seem daunting, but in the end it is so worth it! It comes with the task of having to ask yourself questions you've never even thought of in regards to your home. Like "if I rip out this wall will my house crumble on to itself?" or "can the toilet go on this side of the bathroom?" and you can't forget the classic "do you know a contractor who ISN'T six months out?" No, no we do not! Don't you worry, we are here to share some of Kat's favorite tips, when it comes to tackling your next renovation. First tip. Hire good people! Good people means good work. Find people you trust and who aren't just there to finish the job, but to make sure it's a job you're both proud of. Next up, creating a clear and concise vision not only saves you time, but it also saves you money! This is where hiring a design firm like Kat Nelson Designs can help you figure out exactly what you want. While also keeping your renovation running smoothly and staying on budget. When there are changes from the original plan that means there's extra money that needs to be spent. And lastly, Kat's favorite tip! Patience and kindness will be the thing that gets you through your renovation in one piece. We are here to tell you from experience that something will go wrong. That random little bobble does cost that much and yes, you need it! Thankfully, our world is getting somewhat back to normal, but the cost of materials are rising and finding people willing to do the work is dwindling. So remember, your job will probably be a month longer than you thought, cost a little more than you thought, and be messier than you could ever imagine. Just know at the end of the day that your dream space is waiting for you on the other side of the tunnel and it will be a space to create memories for years to come!
