Servant to Servant

Dear PEGGY,

August 16, 2024

Installation of Bishop Jeffrey Miskus

Back Row; Rev. Robert Kieselowsky, Rev. Zachary Marklevitz, Rev. Dr. Doug Spittel, Rev. Philip Gai, Rev. James Leistico. Front Row; Rev. Luke Zimmerman, Rev. Dr. David Stechholz, Rev. Rob Rogers, Rev. Jeffrey Miskus, Rev. Dr. Jamison Hardy, Rev. Matthew Schiemann.

Praise the Lord!  Praise, O servants of the Lord, praise the name of the Lord!  Blessed be the name of the Lord from this time forth and forevermore!  From the rising of the sun to its setting, the name of the Lord is to be praised!

On Sunday August 11, 2024, Rev. Jeffrey G. Miskus was installed as Bishop/President of the English District LCMS. The worship service was held at Peace Lutheran Church, Windsor, ON, Canada with Rev. Dr. Jamison Hardy, President of Concordia University System (CUS), officiating. Rev. James Leistico presided over the service and sacrament.

Bishop Miskus was confirmed, married, and ordained at the same altar; some members of Peace Lutheran who were in attendance had been Bishop Miskus’ Sunday school teachers. Also present were members from both U.S. and Canadian congregations, the English District Board of Directors, English District Vice Presidents, as well as many from St. Mark’s in Mississauga, ON, Canada (Bishop Miskus’ congregation for the past 24 years). Greetings and blessings were received from Bishop Emeriti David Ritt and David Stechholz. We give thanks and praise to God for all those who served during the service including musicians, chancel guild, ushers, and crucifer.

The Lord is high above all nations, and his glory above the heavens!  Who is like the Lord our God, who is seated on high, who looks far down on the heavens and the earth?  He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ash heap, to make them sit with princes, with the princes of his people.

In Our Churches

Immanuel, Howell, MI

Pastor Eric Forss and members of Immanuel Lutheran Church recently welcomed three families into the congregation. We pray that God will continue to bless Immanuel Lutheran and these families in their pilgrimage of faith. Thanks be to God!

Eternal Life, Mesa, AZ

Eternal Life Lutheran Church was blessed to receive eight people into membership. The congregation also received the gift of a new processional crucifix.

"Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever!" Psalm 107:1

Trinity, Erie, PA

Trinity Lutheran Church recently held a paint night for its members and the community with the subject of their artwork being a cherry tree. While painting with Trinity member Connie Bootz, a visitor inquired about worship services. We give thanks to God that the visitor attended worship the next evening, and we pray that he will experience God's grace and mercy. We also give praise for the saints at Trinity for providing the encouraging welcome that allowed this to happen.

In Our Schools

West Portal, San Francisco, CA

West Portal Lutheran Church and School began the new school year with the installation of their faculty. We pray that the students, faculty, administrators, and parents experience Christ's love and blessings this school year and always.

"Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it." Proverbs 22:6

Advent, Zionsville, IN

Advent Lutheran Classical School's 2nd Annual Golf Outing to benefit the Scholarship Fund was a huge success! The weather allowed the full 18 holes of golf and there was even a first-time hole-in-one for the winning team. Player participation increased from 40 to 52 over last year, and they got the shotgun start they hoped for. There were over 100 people registered (up from 70 last year) for dinner. The unofficial total raised from golf, sponsorships, dinner, raffle, auction, and donations was $30,000. The ALCS faculty, staff and golf committee are all so grateful for the contributions from their church and school families. ALCS’s goal is to provide a Lutheran, classical education to all who desire it, and this fundraiser helps make that possible.

Please check out this PDF with the list of ALCS's sponsors and education costs.
