The Retreat House community is honored to partner with the devoted and loving team at Martin's House and Barn as they fulfill their mission to help meet basic human needs and to create a community without homelessness, hunger, or poverty.
Please join us as we support the work of the Martin's team, who hold compassion and respect for the dignity of each of our neighbors, especially those who struggle with challenging situations and realities. Here are three vital ways this ministry is making a difference -
The Family Shelter in Martin’s House provides a safe haven for families struggling with homelessness. In addition, clients are introduced to resources for overcoming barriers to self-suffiency - information on community services, health, educational opportunities, and life skills classes.
Martin's House & Barn's Thrift Shop welcomes the community. Volunteers are needed - receiving goods, sorting and organizing, and supporting the thrift store operation. Donations of household items are gratefully accepted. Don't miss their monthly Barn sale - the first Saturday of each month. Learn more here.
The Food Pantry is located in the Barn and is supported by local businesses, farms, caring donors, and the Maryland Food Bank. Volunteers are needed to prepare grocery bags for pick-up. For groceries, what is most needed are fresh vegetables. We hope you'll consider collaborating with The Retreat House in sharing vegetables for health and wellbeing. (more below)
