Member Spotlight
Ashley Machine & Tool Company
This month’s membership spotlight is Ashley Machine & Tool Company. NEPA spoke with John J. Mulhern, Jr., President/CEO.

Ashley Machine & Tool, founded in 1945, is a full-service machine shop offering a range of CNC machines of various sizes and capabilities. They currently concentrate on the aviation, space and defense industries but are diverse enough to help many others as well. Through their history, they have produced parts for various commercial and military aircrafts, carrier fleet catapults and the Lunar Modules.

Ashley Machine does not provide products directly to the local area, but the Mulhern family is passionate about the community. They try to send any work they need done to other local businesses. If any local businesses need their help, they also strive to do as much as they can. Ashley Machine also likes to assist local nonprofit agencies and often makes donations to many local sporting and educational organizations.

Ashley Machine is interested in developing lean, repeatable quality processes and maintaining on-time delivery for their customers. These two key factors, along with promoting employee growth, have made them successful.

Mr. Mulhern stated, “Ashley's short affiliation with NEPA has been very helpful. In a short time, we've taken advantage of webinars, networking opportunities, connections to government bids, and finance assistance for plant additions and renovations. I know I can contact anyone at NEPA and be guided in the proper direction.”

Classification Under the U.S. Harmonized Tariff & Schedule B Webinar
Thursday, June 9, 2022 - 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM

An understanding of the Harmonized System is essential for importers and exporters alike. Proper classification under the Harmonized Tariff Schedule or Harmonized Schedule B is a regulatory requirement under the Customs Modernization Act and export controls.

This program will provide those new to importing or exporting, as well as the seasoned professional, with a solid understanding of the classification process. It will also benefit anyone involved in determining eligibility for Free Trade Agreements. We will also discuss how this affects the “Countervailing Duties” on goods from China and other origins.

How you will benefit:
  • Understand the Harmonized System and when to use the Harmonized Tariff or Schedule B
  • Master the General Rules of Interpretation, General Notes, and Trade Preference Provisions to correctly classify your imports for advantageous duty rates
  • Learn how product modification, trade agreements, and preference programs can reduce the amount of duty paid
  • Learn how to obtain classification ruling from U.S. Customs & Borders Protection or other government agencies
  • Learn what “tools” are available to assist with your classification process
  • Avoid fines, penalties, overpayment of duties, and other regulatory compliance problems

Who will benefit:
  • Importers and exporters and their staff who are involved in purchasing, traffic, logistics, coordination with customs brokers, or Electronic Export Information (EEI) filings
  • Customs brokerage personnel looking to expand their knowledge
  • International freight forwarders seeking a better understanding of the import process

The webinar will be presented by Bob Imbriani, Executive Vice President, International, Team Worldwide.
