More than ever before, it seems everyone has found the love of gardening this Spring. Whether you plant a vegetable garden to feed your family or flower garden to enjoy the blooms, its good to see people enjoying the benefits of planting a garden. From the feeling of nice loamy soil between your fingers or the satisfaction of pulling a weed and getting all the roots (and releasing a little aggression at the same time) spending time in the garden is beneficial beyond measure.
We are here to help you be successful in the garden. The Nursery staff is seeing several customers with pests who are very active in the landscape right now. Here is what you might be seeing too and how to treat it:
- Pine Sawfly Larva show up on Mugho Pines. They are a small worm that stands up when you walk by. Spray with Eight, Malathion, BT, or Neem Oil.
-
Viburnum Leaf Beetles in the larvae stage are green worms attacking all of the Viburnum dentatum varieties. Use Eight, Malathion, BT, Neem Oil or a long-term solution, systemic insecticide. (Thank you Keith for the informative videos - you can check it out tomorrow on our You Tube Channel or on our Events page. And on Friday he'll show you how to prune evergreens!)
- Magnolia Scale looks like blobs of white glue on the stem. Treat either by applying systemic insecticide or with a soil drench of Tree and Shrub Insect Control.
- Now is also the time to apply Infuse on Crabapples and Serviceberries for Rust.
- Last but not least... Now is the time to treat your Colorado Spruce varieties with Fungonil for Rhizosphaera Needle Cast.
- All products mentioned in this e-news can be found in the Garden Center.
