It is that time of year when we need to make sure our irrigation is ready to go. Keep in mind, the people who turn on your irrigation are very busy. It may take some time to schedule them to get your system ready to go. So we wanted to send a note out to get you on the right path for lawn and landscape watering.

We launched Bee Friendly Lawn last year to encourage our clients to join us in changing lawn care practices to protect our native bees as well as other beneficial insects and birds.

Bottom line: a healthy lawn is a Bee Friendly Lawn. To keep your lawn healthy, proper watering is critical.

Here are Bee Friendly Lawn watering tips:

Water Deeply from May-October

  • Water slowly and deeply (one to two inches per week, depending on site, soil and rainfall). Saturating the soil encourages the grass to grow deeper roots.
  • Water your lawn from May to October. Don’t allow it to go dormant.
  • You may want to conserve water, but a dormant lawn becomes thin and weak. This allows weeds and moss to move in and take hold.
  • Our summers have become hotter and drier, making watering critical.
