PTK All-California Award Winners
Congratulations to Cherry Quitugua (above right) and Andrea Solis (above left) for being named 2022 Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) All-California award winners. Grades, leadership and community service are all used to determine selection to the All-California teams.

PTK and Solano Community College recognize and celebrate the academic achievement of our students and continue to provide opportunities for growth as scholars and leaders.

Students selected to the All-California teams represent some of the best of the two million students enrolled in California's 116 community colleges. Like so many in our college and communities, there have been new and unprecedented challenges over the last two years. The 2022 winners, including Cherry and Andrea, should be exceptionally proud of their achievements during these difficult times.

Both students say they are honored to have been chosen.

Cherry said: "Returning back to college to gain higher learning has been a goal of mine for quite some time. After having worked in the field of pharmacy for over 20 years, I am looking to pursue a career change. As a wife and mother, I assume my role and responsibilities first as a nurturer and caretaker, and have put my family's needs before my own. I not only strive to live out my dreams, but through the process, I hope to show my children that hard work and commitment pays off in the end. While attending SCC, I plan to get accepted into the biomanufacturing bachelors degree program."

A nomad at heart and curious by nature, Andrea Solis is actively engaging in communities through work and service. Andrea is an international student that actively seeks challenges in many aspects of her life. After studying languages abroad, she decided to study topics related to environmental science, the human landscape and sustainability by embarking on a STEM education in the United States. Andrea is the Vice President of the Beta Mu Gamma Chapter and is co-founder of Solano Community College’s STEM Club. She engages in community work by volunteering at the local wildlife center and coordinates mental health workshops with STEM students at Solano. In the coming years, she hopes to transfer to a 4-year institution and earn her Bachelor’s of Civil and Environmental Engineering.

Congratulations to both Andrea and Cherry!

Forgiving Student Debt
Solano Community College District is announcing that debt which students took on and could not be paid because of the pandemic will be forgiven. Paid for with federal Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) money, the forgiveness affects all account balances that resulted from enrollment in the Spring 2020 through Spring 2022 semesters. All registration holds resulting from these balances will be removed prior to the start of summer/fall 2022 registrations. Solano Community College students have been hit hard because of COVID-19. By eliminating this debt, we are hoping to remove a barrier that would prevent them from continuing their education.
