I was encouraged by our last presbytery meeting. Not so much by the vote to proceed with plans to sell the presbytery office building. That was an historic vote, a wise, appropriate, and to me, sensible vote. However, the result brought more of a sense of relief as well as the realization that now the real work begins. Yes, we do have our work cut out for us. What encouraged me the most, however, was “Good News from the Pews.”

Last call for Presby Prep registration
Those interested in the 2022-2024 Authorized Lay Preacher/Commissioned Pastor Preparation Program, which began in January, must register here no later than Monday, June 6, for Presby Prep. All courses are offered on Zoom each month at two times: a Thursday evening and a Saturday morning. Make-up courses for the first part of the year will begin on June 18 with Biblical Interpretation, and will continue at various times in the summer that are yet to be determined depending on the schedules of those who need them. Order your 2022-2023 Presbyterian Planning Calendar
Each calendar, which runs this September through next December, is $11 when you order through the Presbytery. This price is for pickup at the Presbytery office or, if we receive them from PCUSA in time, the August 18 Presbytery meeting at Enslow Park Presbyterian Church in Huntington; if we mail them to you, there will be an additional postage fee, calculated according to order size. An invoice for your total cost will be included with your order; it will contain information on how to pay online by credit card or through the mail by cash or check. Order here, by email at office@wvpresbytery.org or by phone at 304-744-7634. If you leave a voicemail, please include the number of calendars requested, your name and your church. All orders must be received by June 28.

PDA Storytelling Ministry Team to visit Dunbar to interview those who grew up in the area and may have been affected by chemical plants' ethylene oxide emissions
The Presbyterian Disaster Assistance Storytelling Ministry Team is coming to Dunbar First Presbyterian Church, 1414 Myers Ave., June 6-10 to interview people who grew up in the area, saw the development of the chemical plants in Institute, and who may have been affected by ethylene oxide emissions. There are higher-than-normal cancer rates in the Dunbar/Institute area and concern over ethylene oxide emissions, which may be linked to cancer. Clear Creek marks 125th anniversary
Clear Creek Presbyterian Church will be celebrating 125 years of service in the Clear Creek community the weekend of June 4-5. There will be fellowship, food, music, and memories from noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday, followed by Sunday worship, beginning at 11:15 a.m. June 5. “Please tell me this is not a call to be a pastor.” That is what Jay Nunley said to his pastor and mentor, Jim Musgrave, one day in 2016. (...) Jim smiled and said, “Yes, that is a call to ministry.” Jay was not at all sure that was what he wanted to hear. “What do I do?” he asked. Jim answered simply, “Become a pastor.” Jay fought this for a while but soon found himself preaching at the Gilbert Presbyterian Church a few times a month. He also enrolled in the Presby Prep program offered by the Presbytery. He finished the first two years and became an Authorized Lay Preacher (ALP). He continued to work full time in radio while he preaching on a regular basis at Gilbert. In 2021, Jay finished the third year of Presby Prep and was commissioned in August as a pastor. In September, he officially became the Commissioned Pastor (CP) for Gilbert and also for First in Logan.
