Three Grant Deadlines, SOI Visit, More
Secretary Haaland Visits Civil Rights Sites

Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland traveled to Mississippi and Alabama to tour Civil Rights sites as she explored the Department of the Interior's role in telling America's stories. She stopped in Mississippi to visit sites associated with the murder of Emmett Till and the Medger and Myrlie Evers Home National Monument. In Alabama she toured the sites of the Birmingham Civil Rights National Monument District and the Selma Interpretive Center.

Three Grant Opportunities, Two Deadlines

The National Trust for Historic Preservation is accepting applications for two of its grant programs, the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Fund for Historic Interiors and the Johanna Favrot Fund for Historic Preservation. With grants ranging from $2,500 to $15,000, these funds offer support for educational and planning efforts, as well as brick and mortar projects. Applications are due March 1, so act fast!

The National Fund for Sacred Places provides training, planning grants, technical assistance, capacity-building support, and capital grants up to $250,000 to congregations of all faiths for rehabilitation work on their historic facilities. The Letter of Intent is due March 7; full applications from selected applicants are due July 18.
NPS Park Ranger Position Available - Civil Rights Interpretation

This position is located in the Division of Partnerships, Interpretation and Education in Atlanta, GA. It is a temporary position not to exceed three years. NPS is accepting the first 50 applicants or until 11:59 EST 02/28/2022, whichever comes first.
U.S. Civil Rights Movement Sites Symposium
The U.S. Civil Rights Movement Sites Symposium, to be held in Atlanta April 21-22, 2022, will offer plenty of opportunities to hear from experts, learn from your colleagues, and network. This free event will feature presentations on African American historic preservation and cultural heritage. Held in conjunction with the U.S. Civil Rights Trail Marketing Alliance, the meeting will be an excellent opportunity to connect with other attendees including heads of state departments of tourism, property owners of civil rights heritage sites, and such stakeholders as tour guides, interpreters, scholars and historic preservationists.

This is an in-person event. It will be held in the downstairs lobby and auditorium of the College of Law, both large spaces. We expect our numbers to be below capacity for the area and will encourage participants to socially distance as needed. As a state entity, Georgia State University follows the COVID guidelines set forth by the University System of Georgia (USG). In accordance with USG policy, individuals are strongly encouraged to wear masks as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
