Week of 10/19/2023

Last week’s Commonwealth National Conference was a great chance to gather important information and review best practices in financial planning and investment management. We’ll share a few of the things we learned.

First, an important note about communications:

The SEC and FINRA, the main entities regulating our industry, require that electronic communications with you take place through our official email, secure messaging in Investor360, or through text messages sent to our office number, 352-333-7990. This allows messages to be archived.

Please send any messages through these means. We appreciate your help!

  • Current estate tax rates and exemptions will expire at the end of 2025 meaning more people will be subject to estate tax. Now is a good time to review your plan.

  • We don’t expect changes to tax policy until after the 2024 election, at the earliest. It is unlikely to remain as favorable as it has been, so taking advantage of current strategies like backdoor Roth contributions and Roth conversions (where appropriate) is a good idea.

  • We learned about Father Greg Boyle & Homeboy Industries, a remarkable organization that helps gang members leave the life behind. The secret is Father Boyle’s focus on “boundless compassion.” We were moved by his stories and look forward to reading his book, Tattoos on the Heart.

  • The human component of our relationship with you has many benefits, including fraud and scam prevention. Large institutions are not always able to spot the kind of fraud that is most likely to affect you and me. Our personal knowledge of you and your needs helps us identify potential issues before money moves where it doesn’t belong.

A few weeks ago, Ask the Joes® (and Cale) talked about the attractiveness of bonds in the current economy. Further pressure on interest rates has kept pressure on fixed income, but the long-term opportunity remains.
