Teacher Appreciation Week

Dear Families,

Next week is Teacher Appreciation Week. In our school, all adults are teachers, regardless of their job title. Teachers here wear many hats and take on many roles. They are guides, nurturers, role models, nurses, authors, mathematicians, scientists, mediators, coaches, cheerleaders, mentors, facilitators, referees, artists, musicians, analysts, researchers, counselors, inventors, comedians, actors, and so much more.

Our teachers commit to their profession with their whole selves. Whether they’re within the four walls of the school or not, they are constantly thinking about their students, reflecting on lessons, worrying about how to make sure students are getting what they need, figuring out how to solve problems, communicating with parents, researching topics, bouncing ideas off of colleagues, exploring new ideas for teaching strategies, designing assessments, grading student work, finding materials to support a lesson, reading professional books, and sharing stories about how funny, smart, and hard-working their students are.

As I walk through the building visiting classrooms, the cafeteria, and the playground, I get to witness amazing things happening in this school every day. I see teachers providing their students with rich, relevant, and authentic learning tasks. I see teachers sitting with students in the cafeteria or in classrooms and eating lunch together. I see teachers comforting students who are having a hard day. I see teachers joining students in games at recess. I see teachers high-fiving their students on the way out the door. I see teachers getting hugs from students in the hallway. I see teachers who are smiling and laughing while working with students. I see teachers who are willing to take risks and try new things as they work to engage and advance students in their learning.

Our teachers here are talented, dedicated, and committed to doing their best every day. Thank you, Northwood School teachers, for all that you do and all that you are for our kids!

Have a great weekend!
