It's already August which means Youth Appreciation Day as well as Back to School. We, at the Recreation District have a lot going on this month! Rec Center Hours of Operation
Monday - Friday 5:30 am to 8:00 pm
Saturday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm
Sunday 11:00 am to 4:00 pm
Family/Open Swim begins at 10 am Monday - Friday and at 12 pm on Saturday & Sunday

Due to popularity, some Fit Zone classes are reservation only. Drop-ins are only allowed if there is space. You can place a reservation the day prior to class after 8:00am. Reservations for Monday classes open at 8:00am the previous Friday. Reservations can be made online, by phone (970) 249-7705, or in-person. Please bring your own mat to classes.

Group Fitness Class Descriptions
Barre – A high energy fitness experience that fuses exercise techniques from Pilates, body sculpting, ballet, and yoga. This full body workout incorporates weights, exercise balls and mat exercises. It is perfect for all fitness and experience levels.

Body Sculpting – Using a variety of equipment, instructors will take you through a workout that will challenge all the major muscle groups! This class is designed to strengthen and tone your entire body. 

Dance Fitness - A full body workout that is a lot of fun. Focus is on cardiovascular exercise as well as toning. Instructors incorporate different styles of dance, fitness moves, and music to optimize your Dance Fitness experience. Choreography is simple and easy to learn, with a combination of dance styles, including Latin rhythms, Hip Hop, and Country, just to name a few. A “Happy Hour” guaranteed to make you sweat, smile, and feel great! This isn’t your Mama’s Zumba! 

Functional Fitness, Balance, and Fall Prevention – Participants may use a chair, cane, or walker as needed. Class includes warm-up, functional strengthening, fall prevention, stretching, and cool-down. Class uses small weights and resistance bands to improve mobility, stability, strength, coordination, and balance. Gain confidence in staying on your feet, build strength, and practice negotiating obstacles and walking patterns to improve agility, balance, coordination, and reaction. 

Flow Yoga – Focuses on the connection between breath, movement, and mind. Movements flow from one pose to another in a continuous smooth flow. 

HIIT Bootcamp – Class incorporates bursts of intense activity to push your limits before moving on to the next exercise. Be ready to get your heart rate up and improve your fitness. 

HIIT & Run – High intensity strength and cardio circuit designed to increase heart rate and achieve overall fitness goals in a shorter class period. *Medical clearance may be required*

Rec Kick – Low impact, fast-paced workout that incorporates martial arts techniques with cardio, balance, and coordination.

Rec Strength – Barbell-based class designed to burn fat and build muscle. This high rep workout mixed with upbeat music and coaching will get you “pumped” to achieve your goals! (all levels welcome!)

SilverSneakers Classic – Have fun and move to the music through a variety of exercises designed to increase muscle strength, range of movement and activities for daily living.

SilverSneakers Circuit – This standing class alternates upper-body strength work with low-impact cardio to maximize fitness benefits. 

SilverSneakers Yoga – Get ready to move through a complete series of seated and standing yoga poses. Chair support is offered so you can perform a variety of seated and standing postures designed to increase flexibility, balance and range of movement. 

Spinning – This indoor cycling class provides all the terrain you need - hills, climbs, flats, and more! Spin helps you increase strength and endurance and is easy on the joints. Arrive early to get your bike adjusted.

Tai Chi – Known as moving meditation and can be done by anyone. This form (based on Sun Style & some Chen) is extremely gentle on joints and increases strength in the back and abdominal muscles. It is excellent for balance, easing stress, relaxing, and invigorating the body all while quieting the mind. 

TRX – This class is one of the most effective and innovative ways to challenge core strength and stability while building muscle and increasing cardiovascular endurance using TRX suspension straps.

Yoga – Practice various poses and sequences designed to improve strength, flexibility, and mindfulness. This class is suitable for all levels, including beginners.

Zumba – A Latin inspired cardio-dance workout. No special skills required. Join the party!

Montrose 50+ Program

50+ MUSIC
New Horizons Band of Montrose
This program provides an entry point to music making for 50+ adults with NO prior music experience, as well as those who were once active in a school music program. Participants must provide their own instrument and supplies. Assistance will be provided to help find an appropriate quality instrument.

Smartphone Help
Bring your smartphone and your questions. This is a student led discussion. We will discuss and experiment with a variety of features on your smartphone. We schedule sessions around instructor, Marc Hitchcox’s availability. Next session is Friday, August 4th, at 10:00 am in the Senior Center dining room. Tai Chi for Heath & Energy
Tai Chi uses slow, controlled movements, weight transference, mental resistance and quietness of mind to bring ease to the body. This is a Sun Style based Tai Chi class which incorporates Qi Gong. Novice to advanced are welcome.

Stronger Senior’s Core Fitness Chair Exercise
Provides variety in your fitness plan with routines for flexibility, strength, aerobics, cardio, balance and core. This is a self-led, DVD with a volunteer who sets up.

Open Line Dancing
Learn how to perform line dance steps and receive dance description with counts and formation.

Jam Session / Sing Along

Black Canyon Woodcarvers Group
