THURSDAY: Indigenous Holistic Health & Healing Series

On behalf of Creative Wellness/Psychology

Liz Guerra, adjunct instructor in Creative Wellness presents Practicing Holistic Healing: Understanding Mind-Body-Spirit Connections

Liz Guerra is a Curandera (one who works with folklore medicine), working in holistic health with ancestral methodology to bring healing to personal trauma. Her focus is to help the body release stored trauma through body work, herbal support, and ceremony. These practices are used to accel healing of mind, body, and spirit.

In ancestral medicine, it is already a given that to have complete health, there must be balance and health of mind, body, and spirit. Through storytelling, we will visit what that looks like in the modern world, how modalities of old can couple with experiences of the present, to support healing and growth within ourselves; our physical, emotional, mental bodies, along with our spirit selves.

Liz will be joined by Maria and Derek Lopez who will sing some ceremonial songs. Tamales will be served.

A heartfelt thanks to the sponsors:

Record Number of Mobile Phishing Attacks in 2022

On behalf of Information Technology Services

The highest rate of mobile phishing in history was observed in 2022, with half of the mobile phone owners worldwide exposed to a phishing attack every quarter, according to Lookout.com.

Almost everybody nowadays has a mobile device, and threat actors know this and are ready to pounce. The defenses on a mobile device are less feature-rich than full computer systems, add to that, criminal social engineers can get directly to end users with text messages.

Here are three tips to detect and avoid being victimized.

1. Disregard texts from unknown numbers.

2. Call businesses back on the number on their website, not what the voicemail said.

3. Know that phone numbers can be spoofed, so validate callers/texters.

Beware! Dark web market leaks millions of payment cards.

On behalf of ITS - Information Security

Beware, Credit Card Phishing, Smishing, and Vishing Scams are on the rise!

The notorious criminal carding marketplace called "BidenCash" last week released information on more than 2.1 million credit and debit cards. The cards were released on a top-tier Russian-speaking dark web forum and included card numbers and expiration dates, CVV numbers, and bank names. In the leak, BidenCash also included the personally identifiable information (PII) of the victims, such as names, addresses, email addresses, and phone numbers.

Cybercriminals know the cards are about to expire and it's expected that a Phishing Storm will be the result as cybercriminals try to trick you into renewing your cards.

Spring '23 CU Boulder AI Colloquium Series (3 Sessions)

On behalf of CU Boulder

Sponsored by the Boulder Faculty Assembly and the Office of Academic Affairs, hosted by the CU Boulder Center for Teaching and Learning

Given the explosion of interest in AI both within and outside academia, the Boulder faculty will be holding a series of colloquia this spring. Invited faculty will give informal presentations and engage in open discussions of topics related to classroom uses (and abuses) of software such as ChatGPT, but topics are not limited to pedagogy, and we imagine presentations focused on faculty research areas, as well, for example, questions in philosophy, computer science, religious studies, and the arts.

NEW: Webinar: Designing the Flexible Attendance Accommodation for Maximum Effectiveness

On behalf of Disability Resource & Support Center and Title V - HSI Grants

Students with chronic health or mental health conditions that may be unpredictable in nature and could impact the ability to attend classes sometimes request an accommodation generally referred to as “flexible attendance.” How can Disability Resource professionals determine whether this accommodation is appropriate and if so, how to implement it effectively? This webinar will address how facilitating this accommodation requires working toward concrete outcomes rather than relying on generic statements. Explore how this accommodation can be practically designed as a concept, worded in an accommodation letter, and put into practice in collaboration with faculty. Plenty of time for Q&A will be provided.

The MAPS Center for STEM Support strives for excellence in providing holistic support services to all STEM students through culturally competent programming and resources in a safe, inclusive environment. We are equally committed to decreasing mental health stigma among STEM students, faculty, and staff.

MAPS hopes to give space for developing student-led communities that bring together diverse, and historically underrepresented people within STEM fields, as part of our commitment to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI) through the introduction of Affinity Groups.

Meetings will begin Monday, 2/13/23 and be held weekly following this schedule in the MAPS Office (LS 114):
